1851 Census, Marazion, Cornwall.
HO107; Piece: 1918; Folio: 123; Page: 8
Elizabeth WILLIAMS, aged 64, Somersetshire, ?
I am hoping someone familiar with Somerset might recognise what is written on the census entry for the place of birth written after Somersetshire. William Williams and Elizabeth Williams married in Over Stowey in 1819, and had one son christened there 10 months later. In the 1861 census Elizabeth's birth place is shown as Overtoy or Oversoy. Thanks :wink5:

According to the transcription on FMP, the address is Leans Rowe, Marazion [Reg district Penzance] and Elizabeth was born in 'Summerhouse Strenson'.

For what it's worth, :biggrin5: I think the first word of Elizabeth's birthplace is Somersetshire, though admittedly spelt more as Summetshire. :confused5: (It does show up more clearly on FMP's image.)
Genuki's list of Somerset towns and parishe (http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/SOM/parishes.html)s isn't very helpful as regards 'Strenson'. However, not that far away and just slightly north-west of Over Stowey is Stringston. So with a local accent and a few dropped letters, I think that might be a candidate.

Thanks Pam and bjelkier
With Somersetshire being written down how it sounded, that makes sense that one is not going to get perfection for the town name either! A*y has transcribed it as Threosea. I couldn't find Elizabeth baptised in Stringston, but it is good possiblilty. A couple of Williams there, who may have moved about. I don't think that I will worry about it too much, one can do one's head in with an Elizabeth Williams marrying a William Williams, at least they did me a favour by being still in Somerset for their first kid, and living to 1851! I had already worked my way throught the list on the West Somerset parish registers page , I'll go through Genuki's list now! Thanks again.
