Ragland Family

I'm trying to locate the parents of Evan Ragland, born probably in St. Decumans Parish, Somerset, in 1656. His parents may have been Thomas and Jane Morgan Ragland. According to family legend, he was abducted to Virginia and indentured, later married the landowner's daughter and founded the Ragland family in America. Since I live in America, any help from English Raglands would be greatly appreciated!

I have looked at the Somerset Record Office on line catalogue. There are no references to the Surname Ragland with the Christian names that you have given. This excludes Parish Registers.

The SRO will not be producing original documents after the 6th April and from 7th April until 2nd July - microfische only. (Most of the PRs are on mf.) The RO then closes until September when it will open at a new site.

If you would like me to look at the PRs I am happy to do so - I go to the Record Office each week.

That would be fabulous. Thank you so much. Familysearch.com does list Evan as Thomas and Jane's son, born in May, 1656, but that parentage has been
disputed, so it would be lovely to know if the Decuman parish register has anything on him.

Hi Renart,

I will be going to the RO next week and will try to get onto a MFreader - there should be no problem as I am booked in.
(The RO is very busy now as it will be closing in July until September for relocation.)
