Hello Norman,

I would say some time during the 1920s - cloche hats being the clue. From 1922 to 1925, cloches were worn with small brims at the front and that of the bride looks to be very small.

I agree with Jan as by the 1930's they ( cloches) were no longer in style. Also the groom(?)in his uniform has his medals pinned on so perhaps he was in WWI ? I love the bride's bouquet...wouldn't it be great to see it in colour?

Oh, how lucky you are to have a lovely photo. On first seeing it, my thought was "cloche hats--1920's". Note also the bride's and the Mums' ankle-strap shoes.

I especially like GrandDad in the hay on the right, wearing his best white weskit.

Thank you for cleaning up the photo for me, it is certainly a lot clearer. It is really appreciated. I am interested to know what software you use as I have other photos that need enhancing.

Hi Norman, I use Photoshop most of the time and also Gimp, depending on which computer I'm on at the time, how many photos do you have in need of repair, if there's not too many of them just email them to me a few at a time as I quite enjoy the work.
Regards,
Hugh.

Thank you all for your help and suggestions.
The photo was found behind another family photo in a frame when my cousin took the photo out to scan it for me. We assume that it is of a close family wedding. We have been trying to identify the Bride and Groom and others in the photo, hopefully your dates will help us to do this.

I have a copy of a family wedding photograph taken in London at around the same time.

The bride is the most up to date one in your photo, the brim on her cloche is almost non existent. I would go a bit later and say 1926/7. Or a bit later still if its a country wedding which it could well be, looking at the surroundings.

I see that you have entitled the photo "Haslarwedding", Haslar is an area of Gosport and is of course the site of the Royal Navy Hospital at Gosport in Hampshire. The groom is wearing his summer uniform (white hat and white front) and he is a Leading Stoker with two good conduct stripes so he has served at least 8 years,

Just a bit of a guess on who is who in this picture and the way they are all placed.
Bride and groom in the middle (that's not a wild guess)
Three bridesmaids, one being the little girl also dressed in white.
Seated far left the brides mother and seated far right the bridegrooms mother.
Second row. The two gentlemen standing in the middle are the fathers. The one on the right looks more like the bridegrooms father and the one on the left the brides father. The old gentleman is most likely to be the bridegrooms grandfather and from the eyes and nose possibly the bridegrooms father's father.
Just matching the facial features with the happy couple and possibly completely wrong.
About 1920/30. I have photo's of my lot, dressed just like this and being country folk they were not that fast catching up with the latest fashion
Cheers
Dave

I do, too.

He looks as if he's wearing a Father Christmas beard & he's brought his packed lunch in his pocket(s). Maybe he thought he'd get peckish before the wedding breakfast.

He looks a lovely character.

Thank you for the information on the uniform, I had been wondering what rank the groom held. This hopefully will help me with my research.

I love the grandfather's trousers, they come up to his armpits! He was obviously supposed to grow into them. I have a picture somewhere of my grandpop in trousers like that.
