Hi my name is Linda Meecham and I am new to this forum. I have been researching my family for about 6 months but am stuck on my mother's side of the family.
My mother is Kathleen Hughes nee Johnson she was brought up Cleadon, county Durham, I know little of my grandparents.
My Grandfather was Thomas Johnson 30 Edith Street, South Shields, who married Annie Duffy 6th May 1924 (they were both 20 years old at the time) Annie's father was James Duffy labourer (docks) of 8 Price Street South Sheilds at the time of Annie's marriage. Thomas' father is given has George johnson Labourer (shipyard) - information gained from the marriage certificate and my mothers birth certificate.
Information recieved from the family is that thomas remarried Jane Henderson and she either gave birth to 2 children by Thomas or had been married previously and had 2 children from that marriage.
My mother has a brother called Thomas.
I was led to believe that my grandmother died in childbirth givin birth to my mother, but the only Annie Johnson I can find died in 1932, so that leaves a puzzle.
This is the extent of the information I have so far and I would be grateful if anyone can help me to find out more of my grandparents and possibly my great granparents.
Thanks to you all in anticipation.
Linda

Hello Linda and welcome to the forum. |wave|
This board is just to say hello and for us to also say hello and welcome to you.
Is it possible for you to copy and paste your question to a new thread? Try the Durham board where members that know the area may be able to help. Also don't forget not to post details of any living people.
Good Luck and I'll keep an eye out for your questions. :)

Hello Linda and Welcome - if you do not know how to move your request to the Durham forum, just ask one of the mods to do it for you, once it is there I am sure someone will be able to offer help/advice as to how you progress.
Enjoy your seaching - it gets very addictive - beware!!

Have looked at the 1911 census for you and the Johnson family were at Edith Street, all listed as being born in South Shields. George b1875 age 36 labourer, Ellen his wife age 30 b1881 - they had been married 12 years. George age 12, Elizabeth age 9, Annie age 9, Thomas age 6, and Mary 3. Using this info you can find the birth refs and the mariage ref (from freebdm). Will now look for the Duffy's.

The Duffys are not in Price Street in 1911 - there are only two Annie Duffys of the right age (b 1904 +/-2) in Co Durham and neither has a father called James, so have drawn a blank with her.

A* has the marriage of Thomas Johnson to Jane F Henderson march quarter 1947 South Shields 1a 1883, so it looks like your death for Annie is correct and Thomas did not marry again until 15 years later.

Hi I am so sorry if I have not posted correctly, this is the first time I have posted on a forum but will check the rules more carefully in the future. BTW I did not mention anyone that is living, but if I gave that impression I apologise.
I have now posted on the Durham thread instead by cutting and pasting.
thank you for keeping me right
regards
Linda

Hi Lindam,
sometimes the new members get in a muddle and post questions in all sorts of places, not necessarily incorrect but not always the best place to receive maximum responses. It is understandable though. ;)
Sometimes the members try to do their best and try to help out and post their replies in the wrong places, not necessarily incorrect but not always in the best place. It is understandable though. :)
Sometimes the moderators get their knickers in a twist and cannot sort out the new members or the old members, like now, when your question has gone to Durham (as I suggested) and your answers are here.
That is not so understandable because I should be able to sort it out. Bear with me, I might manage it. |biggrin|

Oh Pennydog, you are an angel.|angel| thank you.
The problem was, that your replies were timed before lindam's question, so if I moved or merged them, they would have gone in front rather than following.
Seeing as the members have successfully sorted the problem themselves, I might go to bed now. |laugh1|
