No prizes for this one - just something to get you thinking............

While I type away on the computer I often have a portable DVD player on nearby - as much for the dialogue as anything - I know most of the scripts off by heart; but still enjoy them. So what I have been watching recently?

1.
RG13/868 f41 p41
RG13/74 f129 p26
Clue - "Is he alright?" - "Yes" - "Pity"

2.
RG13/4805 f65 p24
RG13/1599 f146 p28
Clue - Woodstock town centre at night

3.
RG13/81 f68 p19
RG13/350 f159 p9
Clue - Boccherini

What links all three, who can be found in the above census returns and of the above who changed their names and to what?

(No.3 is the easiest).

I'm confused as I get several hundred results when I put the folio and page numbers in on freecen as I don't know any other way.

I think I know what the link is, and who changed their name, but I can't access

3. RG13/81 f68 p19
on either of two sites, so I conclude that there's a typo.

Also have you watched three different films/plays/TV programmes, wiith the people in them forming the common link? (I know it's a dumb question, but I'm having trouble with three titles. :) )

Hi Robin,
Sorry but FreeCEN will be no good to you this time, as the references begin RG13 which means the 1901 census, and the 1901 has yet to be transcribed to FreeCEN.
You need a subscription/pay-to-view site such as Findmypast, The Genealogist, or Ancestry.
Though I didn't know that you could search using a census ref on FreeCEN

Oh..............................golly gosh |oopsredfa

I did of course just want to see who'd spot that deliberate mistake.

It should read RG13/86 f68 p19 (Elizabeth Street, St.George Hanover Square) as identifying this entry is probably the easiest way to solve the whole thing.

That's right, three different productions with a common and obvious link

RobinC - sorry, this is really for those who have a subscription to a census site.

Bother, if that means Find my Past, as the UK has the least respect for our humble Aussie Dollar. I shall remain unknowing.

Um, still stuck on three different productions, but your 'deliberate mistake' :D takes my total to 4 four people in the common link.
I could ask a supplementary question too. 'What connection does the link have to Boston Lincolnshire?' :)

RG13/868 f41 p41 - Got this one
RG13/74 f129 p26
Clue - "Is he alright?" - "Yes" - "Pity"

2nd clue - Long chain molecules

I'd have thought you'd get the 2nd census entry more quickly than the first.

2.
RG13/4805 f65 p24
RG13/1599 f146 p28 - Got this one
Clue - Woodstock town centre at night

One of the great lines in this is said by the man in the second census entry above to the man in the first census entry "Mr Weech, You wouldn't joke about a sacred subject"

3.
RG13/81 f68 p19 - Got this one
RG13/350 f159 p9 - Got this one

This one and the title of the production should lead to a connection to the others

If anyone is still in doubt with this production another clue might be - Copenhagen Tunnel

Not sure if I've got my knickers in a twist as what I now think is this title is what I thought was the link.

Oooh - think I might have further inspiration about the link. In which case, back to the drawing board. (Yeh, just double-checked. Got mixed up with one of the names. |doh| |dunce2| )
Still don't have a clue about the titles for 1 and 2 though.

What links it to the other two films?

Who were the people?

I think 3 Boccherini is the film.
Not to sure about the others but think the link maybe to two comedy actors in the 1955 film and one serious but cant put my finger on it.

Finally got them all.
It's all very well setting these quizzes Geoffers, but you must bear in mind that some of the pay-to-view-the-census sites ain't very hot on transcriptions. :D

1.
RG13/868 f41 p41 = Cecil Schwabe
RG13/74 f129 p26 = Ernest Thesiger (indexed by A* as Thearger)
Clue - "Is he alright?" - "Yes" - "Pity"

Film = The man in the white suit

2.
RG13/4805 f65 p24 = George Relph (indexed by A* as Ralph)
RG13/1599 f146 p28 = Stanley Holloway
Clue - Woodstock town centre at night

Film = The Titfield Thunderbolt

3.
RG13/86 f68 p19 = Katie Johnson
RG13/350 f159 p9 = Horace John Waters (indexed by A* as Anna John Walen)
Clue - Boccherini

Film = The Ladykillers

What links all three, who can be found in the above census returns and of the above who changed their names and to what?

Connection = All produced at the Ealing Studios. (Not sure if they're all classed as Ealing comedies.)

Cecil Schwabe became Cecil Parker, and Horace John Waters became Jack Warner.

Sorry

Clue - "Is he alright?" - "Yes" - "Pity"

This is where Alec Guinness gets hit on the head

Kierlaw is the name of the character played by Ernest Thesiger

Clue - Woodstock town centre at night

After Stanley Holloway and Hugh Griffiths steal a train, they are seen driving it through Woodstock town centre.

Mallingford is the name of a town in the film

Clue - Boccherini

The composer of the music repeatedly played through the film

Copenhagen Tunnel - The character played by the wonderful Katie Johnson lived in a house (a set built for the film) on top of Copenhagen Tunnel.

Connection = All produced at the Ealing Studios. (Not sure if they're all classed as Ealing comedies.)

Well they makes I larf so I calls 'em comedies.

I got myself in a right tangle because I originally thought 'The Ladykillers' was the link. Got the Jack Warner name early on because although he was indexed incorrectly one of his sisters, Doris, was transcribed correctly.

The reason I said 'And what is the connection to Boston Lincolnshire?' was because I thought that 'The Ladykillers' was the connection, and the second assistant editor on the film was Jim Clark, who was born in Boston. So he was in fact only connected to film three, and not all three.
Though the make-up artist on 'The Titfield Thunderbolt' was Harry Frampton - and Frampton is a village about three miles from Boston. |biggrin|

(Jim Clark, incidentally, went on to win both an Oscar and a BAFTA in 1985 for best film editing for 'The Killing Fields'.)

I am overwhelmed to have won this amazing priceless prize. Thank you so much. Though I would have preferred to know where Henry was born, and the names of his parents - and of course, where they married, and the names of their parents.|biggrin|

Too late, I've just started watching 'The Maggie' (1954), Paul Douglas, Alex Mackenzie, James Copeland Hubert Gregg, Geoffrey Keen - dir. Alexander Mackendrick.
