Hello everyone.

I've been giving up genealogy for over 5 years now. I've unearthed 58 of my 64 4xgt grandparents, the remainder are the dead ends I doubt I'll ever resolve.

I've rediscovered errant ancestors who moved away and started new families in different countries, I've found step-relatives that refuse to believe their ancestors could do such things, I've tracked down the missing, and I've found the incest. I am my own fourth cousin once removed which may explain a few things.

The only remarkable thing I've discovered is that in the past 250+ years, in the event of war or conflict, my ancestors were out that day, or holding the coats and letting someone else get on with it. The Industrial Revolution also by-passed. "Agricultural labourer" or "fisherman" have been the main occupations with breading being the main pastime.

As I said, I'm not an addict, but I am seriously toying with considering taking this up as paid work though.

I'm sure some kind soul on here will tell me how it is in the real world. Failing that, shoot me now (though note all sources and evidence and bury it in my tree).

However, how much would I make.. umm

Either way, hello, look around and make yourself at home, then post away.

|wave| Welcome to B-G! We rather like genealogy addicts here :) I envy you being in Edinburgh for research purposes - unless of course your ancestors had the bad sense to come from south of the border!

I was brought up in Glasgow with an English surname that no-one could spell or pronounce, and now I am married to a Welshman I have a Scottish surname that no-one here can spell or pronounce http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Sad/sad-007.gif

I can sympathise. I'm married to a Greek with two names few can pronounce.

I was born in Scotland with a Scottish surname of a father from Aberdeenshire and a mother from Norfolk. I have no Scottish accent. In fact people believe I'm from Hampshire.

Oh, and yes, envy Edinburgh. The access to research sources is just lovely :)

Mine too! When I find anybody remotely interesting, I have a party....metaphorically speaking!!

Yet another addict.
