I am trying to find George Coutts, Mary his wife and 1 year old son William in 1841. In 1839 William was born in Barton St Mary South Hamlet of Gloucester and in 1845 they are living in Tewkesbury but I do not know where they are in 1841. Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Geoff

Many thanks for that. I have traced them then but their wherabouts in 1841 is eluding me. I know that William was born in 1839 in Barton St Gloucester and they had a child in 1842 in Tewkesbury but cannot find them in 1841. What makes the whole thing more confusing is that in 1865 they live in Barton St Tewkesbury.

I will carry on searching. I looked through the 1841 census for Tewkesbury in the Family Record centre but my eyes got very tired towards the end and I am wondering if I missed them so I will return and try again.
Many thanks

Hi Shelagh
They had wandered!
HO107/353/18 p14 f23 Painswick Rd, Leckhampton, Glos. [it's south of Cheltenham]
George Coutts 25 plumber & glazier
Mary Coutts, 26
William George Coutts, 1
Robert Tranter 14 apprentice

George was born outside the county, the rest inside. A number of his nieghbours were stonemasons. Perhaps he was there because of work & the family returned "home" after the contract finished.

Hi Wirrall

Many thanks for taking the time to look up the answer to my query. That helps a lot especially finding a nephew living with them. I still have to find out why they came there as George was born in London but married Mary in Stroud (she came from near there) and he was a plumber and glazier. This seems to be about the time when sanitation was introduced so maybe it was because of that. Some questions are very difficult to answer.

Thanks again
