Hi, this is my first message and a cry for help.
Any sugestions where I should look for me great grandfather CECIL TOWNEND, born 5.11.1863 in Kensington, he is on the 1871 census in Islington aged 7, again on the 1891 census aged 27 and married.
BUT he is not to be found on the 1881 census, where could he be????

Don't know if I've tracked him down for you, but doing a devious search in the 1881 census at http://www.familysearch.org/ (I just put in Cecil, date of birth 1863 + or - 2 years and born in London) and amongst the results was a family transcribed as TORRNEND with a 17 year old Cecil, living at 81 Rectory Road, London. There is a Rectory Road in Stoke Newington, which is right next to Islington so....
They are quite a large family, so rather that list them here, if you think it might be your Cecil, take a look at 1881 on FamilySearch and put in Torrnend as the surname. Hope it is him!
Best wishes
Ann
