Hello I joined last week but got so carried away I forgot to introduce myself. I have been creating a family tree for about 15 years. My people are JACKSON, ENGLISH, CROW from Grimsby, Yorkshire and possibly Lancashire and from my mother's Irish side WEBSTER, IRWIN, FITZSIMONS, CAMPBELL from Wexford, Armagh,Portadown and Monaghan.
As I have read in your forums the Irish research has been frustrating and sometimes futile, but it looks like great things are happening on that front and at last I have managed to get to 'see' some of my family on the computer. Maybe I am just getting better at researching.
Thanks for the help so far.

Hello Buddy, welcome aboard. Take a good look around and post any problems you may be having finding relatives and wait for the demolition squad to come rolling in.

Thank you Maggiemac. I have made quite a lot of headway in the past year and think I have the Grimsby lot sorted EXCEPT for my Grandfather Charles Jackson! I have just obtained what I think is his death certificate, which states he died in 1957 in Fryston House, Grimsby at age 80. This ties up with just about all I know of him ie born about 1877 and he was a seaman/fisherman/captain.
I am sure he was not born there though as the story goes that he ran away to sea to escape the cotton mills.
It was his home port from before 1912 as my father John English Jackson was born there Jan 1912 and my Gran (Amelia English) lived there from 1895/6 until her death in 1976. I have found out that they were not married and know their relationship broke up during WW1.

I am also looking for James Robert Newton who was adopted/taken in by my Gran (Amelia Barnett at that stage) during WW2. I am hoping he is still alive as he would be about 70 years old. We lost touch about 8 years ago when I was still living in Cape Town. I am not sure you can help with living people?
Many thanks for any help
Buddy

I do remember Fryston House...a lovely old place...it is still there...but taken over now by Social Services.
