I am having difficulty logging in today, is it because you have been updating your site or have I left it too long between activities. I find that you have to have a break from researching your families or you might burn out!

The site has had a very recent upgrade.
Read all about it here (http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/showthread.php?55842-vBulletin-Upgrade).

Hi Lincoln Lad, same thing happens to me! But as you say, clicking on the Forum link gets us in. Is it just me or is loading pages slower now?

Seems to have a go slow from time to time. May not be the upgrade though. Could be something happening in the background.

I also have trouble getting in, but thankfully I manage it.
Also on the front page all of the titles are only showing the top half of the letters I can read it but it is strange.

Hi Jill,
which front page? Can you post a link please? Just copy and paste it from the address bar in your browser.

Thanks. Looks normal to me. Are any other pages affected?

Once I view a thread it is fine, I cannot understand it is it just me?
I go onto another forum that has just changed exactly the same as this one and that one is OK for me to view.

Hi Jill,
No one else has mentioned it. I will see if Bo Peep has heard of it happening else where.

More like a downgrade to me. Extra complications - previously I could read 'new posts' without logging in, but could then log if I needed to post or search. Now its all different, with no auto logging in either.
Also we are on 'English US' at the foot of the page - why?
Boooo!

Boooo! Please read the other threads about the upgrade. It has taken place so that the site is more secure and various "wrinkles" are in the process of being ironed out.
I have worked with various computer systems as part of my "day job" for years and they have all undergone upgrades from time to time. All of them take a little while to get used to and all have had wrinkles. However, with all of them, things settled down.
All I ask is that people are patient whilst this takes place. The upgrade has been in place for less than two days and Bo and the techies are working hard in the background to sort things out.
Thank you.

You can view posts without logging in. When you arrive at the first page, that asks you to log in, just click on Forum at the top. You will then see the previous original forum page. Then you can click on Todays Posts
I think this has to be addressed. We don't want to put new members off if they think they have to register before looking at posts.
Previously the forum address was: british-genalogy.com/forums (then be able to view without logging in), this is now a log in page
the forum page is british-genalogy.com/forums/forum.php

I am still encountering difficulty logging in, I have cleared cache and cookies, logged in and get taken to this page
http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/search.php?searchid=6212 this does not show that I have logged in in the top right hand corner.
Also having difficulty that when I do get on, I occasionally get thrown out again and have to start again |computer|
Anyone any ideas what is going on?

I have saved this page to my favourites: http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/forum.php
Then, I click on it, enter my username and password, making sure that the "remember me" box is also ticked and then it takes me in.
I always log out when I go off-line so that the little green light next to my name is not then lit. Do you click on the "remember me" box?

Hi Jan, thanks for your advice, yes I do click on the remember me box, will log out and try again, see what happens.
Edit, now the page wont scroll up sufficient to see the full log out button!!
Second edit, it only partially shows when looking at the whole page, when replying or editing a post if I scroll up it shows the whole button!

Jan, thanks I have now got in with no problem, log out also shows fully again, don't know what happened. BUT in the time taken to log out and in again, the new posts changed to show only one instead of the posts for the last set time period.
We will persevere and get the glitches ironed out (at least Pam will I hope)

Either the heads are missing or the feet get chopped off. It is probably something technical to do with my settings but, being a computer luddite to a certain extent, i have not the foggiest idea!
Perhaps your view is to do with your settings?

nanatazGlad you made it through the wardrobe into Narnia, nanataz! Have a good old wander round and get used to the feel of the new set-up. Have a good old read of the threads about the changes as well.

Jan I assume not, it is ok again now and I have not changed anything. I am using Chrome, I find it better and quicker than IE, but it still has its problems.

This is very strange as I have no problems with that, nor has anyone else contacted me about it. I will see what I can find out from vBulletin.
Thank you Bo Peep
It is strange as I said before, I visit another forum who has changed in exactly the same way yet I do not have a problem with them.

Hello it's me again
Everytime I log in I get this
Jillychris, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
I can then carry on and get in but it is irritating now as I thought it would just go away in time but it hasn't.
Any help would be appreciated.
By the way I am happy with this site any which way it arrives, I don't like change but I don't want to cause a headache to people who work so hard, so thank you for all of your hard work.
Regards
Jill

It is because you have your bookmark set to go to this (http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/content.php) page - the site home page.
If you change it to go to the forum home page (http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/forum.php) you will not see it any more.
Just one more bug.:)
If you do change and want to see the site home page just click on the word Home just below the red and blue banner on the Brit-Gen site.

Oh I see I don't come in by bookmark anymore as Firefox seem to change it all of the time so I just type it into the search engine.

Definitely a Chrome bug. I have not had that problem on this forum but I do get it from time to time on other sites. I still would not go back to IE though.:D

Well it's a different page. When logging in, the page is returning people to the content.php page which is part of the vBB suite system (basically like a CMS homepage) rather than forums.php. The security wrapper is around the whole site now, not just forums.
It just needs some form of basic page written, which should sort things out (and remove the confusion).
