My name is John and live in the UK although born in the Isle of Man. I have been researching my family for the past 2 month's (Cull family in the Isle of Man and the Rees family from LLannnelli, South Wales) and have accumulated a lot of information from family members. I am more interested in their role played in the First and Second World War. Now the hard bit begins trying to verify it all and find out the missing information.

Hello John, and welcome to Brit Gen, I think everyone's curled up in bed over there, not to worry, there's lots of help to be had here, so make yourself at home and fire away with your questions on the relevant boards, good luck.

Welcome John....
|oopsredfa You gave me a reason to learn something new for today. I always thought the Isle of Man was part of the UK, but I looked it up and I see it isn't. Does such a tiny place have its own government and parliament? Is it part of the Commonwealth? Would you need a passport to visit?

Sue Y, as far as I know I would not need a pastport to visit, but then again I went to the republic of Ireland without a passport. However as you live in Canada you would need one.. or just a thought did you mean visa?

No, I was just wondering about you folks who already live over there ... call it " Idle curiousity" :) ..... My geography lesson for the day;) For exmple, I wonder how many folks on the forum are aware that France owns 2 islands in the mouth of the St.Lawrence river? They are St-Pierre and Miquelon. We have to have a valid passport to visit there.

Well...the stuff you learn! |blush| I didn't know that Susan - about needing a passport to visit St. P and M and I live in Canada. But then I just found out that my son can be my guarantor on my Canadian passport application, since he is Canadian and I am British. (It's kind of odd that my son gets to verify my exhistence and not myself |laugh1|)

They just changed the rule for the passports.....used to be you had to have a doctor, lawyer or Indian Chief for your guarantor! Glad your son knows who you are ( or maybe he wants to send you on a trip?;)).|jumphappy
