Can you be more specific about what you mean. The "LDS site" can mean lots of things. Can you provide an example? Do you mean "Download" an IGI record?

If you go on to the LDS site at www.familysearch.org
There is the option to view the record search pilot and the images of the Bishops Transcripts for Durham .
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=allCollections;r=1
If you look at an image then at the top of the page there is a save option .
Can you actually save the images as when i do it stores to a file that cannot be opened .

I've just tried it out and it saved the image as a JPEG in My Pictures.

Add .jpg at the end of the file name when you save it, and see if that helps?

Peter, is the Help page any use (top right)? You may need to update your Flash player (or something ... ;)).

None of the Bishop Transcripts that I've looked at (Dean of Sandbach, Cheshire) through the pilot site have images associated with them.
Some of the other records that I've looked at elsewhere on that site do have images that I can bring up. To save I do as Kerrywood has suggested; I click on the save button that's provided with the image and up pops the Save In panel, I type in a file name followed by a dot and then the JPG extension to indicate the J-Peg format and then click save.

I think that explains why I can't view them :D :D :D Thank you, Ed.
I can see those images which are available.

Hi wont give me the option to save as a jpeg - thats the problem .When I save it just comes up as "all files" so when i save it I cant reopen it.
Im using windows unless it has something to do with that?

When you get the Save As box, just add .jpg at the end of the File Name, like this ...
SIMPSON marriage 1836.jpg
The Save as type box will still say All Files, but it should actually save the image as a jpg, which you can then open as such.
Does that work for you? :)

Hi Fountainpen
Because I'm such a klutz with computers I have often downloaded images and stuff and then can't find them.
If it was a recent download, then I go into the start menu and click on MY RECENT DOCUMENTS and it's almost always there.
In the case of an image from the Durham BTs, I just found one in MY RECENT DOCS that I hadn't renamed and it appears with a number for the file name-4040289_2.jpg for my image.
Now I think I'll check what the other docs with numbers are! I suspect they may be my Christmas pics.
I'm on windows xp if that is relevant.

Hi
no thats what i do but it says "All files" saves to my pc but not as a jpg .
It saves as something else which i cant open.
Can you save as a Jpg ?If so i need to get my other half to look into it for me .
I thought maybe you could not save the images due to some copyright etc.

No, I don't think that's the problem. But I'm afraid it needs someone more computer-savvy than me to provide the answer. :(
Anyone else?

Fountainpen,
When you click on save to bring up the save panel, notice that at the bottom of the panel there are two places to enter information: one is File name and the other is Save as type.
The Save as type entry area will have All Files (*.*) in it. As you've already found out you can't change that.
Go to the File name and enter a name followed by .jpg. An example of what I mean is
1911census.jpg
Once you've typed in the file name followed by the .jpg click on the Save button to the right to save it to your computer.
