Hello all

A while back I obtained a copy of my great-grandfather's admission papers and medical record from the Bethlem Archives, where he was a patient for about 8 months until his death in 1898. It's taken me a great while to transcribe everything and I am almost there now, but there is one word which is partly obliterated and I just cannot work out and wonder if anyone has any thoughts as it looks a little untidy at the moment!

It is the section relating to his family medical history:

******hsis :
Sister – tubercular peritonitis
A child – acute tuberculosis after Wh. C.

(His sister had died of tubercular peritonitis in 1878 and his 3 yr old daughter died of "Whooping Cough Tubercular Meningitis" in 1888.)

Thanks :)

Probably phthisis - another name given to tuberculosis at that time.

I imagine it is Phthisis, another word for tuberculosis
