I'm no expert on this but it is to do with the size of the photo. I believe the best way to do it is from a web site. Load the photo to your web site and then load it from there. If you still have problems you can sen it to me and I will try to put it. No gaurantees mind! :D

Hi,

It certainly appears to be an Australian hat though looking at the web in the following link it may also be New Zealand.

http://www.diggerhistory.info/pages-uniforms/slouch_hat.htm

If it is Australian you can find details of WWI soldiers at:

http://www.awm.gov.au/database/nroll.asp

you can also look at:

Happy hunting

Are there any visible badges on the photo (and if so how clear are they), these may help to tie down a unit.

Hi,
If WWI is a guess, could the uniform be for the Boer War, possibly a Mounted Unit? Especially if you have no known connections with the ANZACs. The lady's dress may also give a clue, more so if the style did not come in before, say, 1910. I got a lot of help from the Costume Museum in Bath in dating early 19th Century pictures.

Hello All.
When I saw the first post, it took me back to many years ago.

The photo looks at first glance from the Australian New Zealand Army Corps.hence the name ANZAC. They serverd in both WW1 & WW2 with great distinction, both in Europe and the far East.(the hat could be worn full open or with one side folded on parades etc:

http://www.answers.com/topic/anzac

But looking closely at the hat again, it took me back to meeting some of the unsung heros of WW2 called the Chindits. They wore the same hat and the attached links may describe it better. They were comprised of several units from "British Regiments", as the links will show, and also a Regiment of Ghurka Rifles. They fought under terrible jungle conditions, and many died of fever and Malaria. However they succeeded in shortening the war in that area.

Please check the complete 3rd link above is completely highlighted before copying and pasting it.

I am faily sure this is one of the two suggestions I have offered. Looking at the posts, you may find the answer.
