First dipped my toe in genealogical waters when I retired just over 3 years ago. |nopity|A number of years ago an old great aunt had hinted that she had an extensive family tree already researched -NOT SO !! (as I discovered some time later when she died). The extent of her research was a few names and dates listed on a paper bag from Lewiss's Glasgow (at one time the largest store in the U.K.). She also hinted that the MITCHELL side of the family had strong links with Bonnie Prince Charlie under the name of MACDONNELL and a gift from the prince had allowed him to set up a goldsmiths business in Bishopwearmouth - A little truth in that - there was a goldsmith, watchmaking & jewellery business in the 18th/19th century.
Thats part of the background to the start of my research. I've hit a number of brickwalls |banghead| in all areas of interest & hopefully in time most can be resolved. I'm looking forward to learning new tricks of the trade from this informed forum.

With these few words I'll close now & hope to speak with you all later.

P.S. I'm a Apple man and use 'Reunion'.

Hi All,
I was a visitor to Paisley 1951 - 1953, working for Babcock & Wilcox at Renfrew. We stayed at the B & W Hostel (A Palace) Foxbar Road on the way to the Gleniffer Braes,Probably the best 2 1/2 years of my life. 28 guys Students, Graduate & Top Apprentices from all over the World. The name of our Mansion was Brediland House, truly it was beautiful inside. Our Scottish Mum and Dad were Mr & Mrs Fergus MacDuff Gourdie, pretty strict, need to be with 28 guys but they were great. We had Parties,21st's, and met lots of Lovely Paisley Girls and at least 7 of the
28 guys I stayed with married "Their Buddies".So thought this would be a good place to Thank the People of Paisley for taking such good care of us
and even some one might remember some of us. I was from Liverpool and after settling in NZ have visited the UK twice and including Paisley.
My wifes father is buried at Dunure Cemetry August 1943.Crashes in a Hampden Torpedo bomber Minton Hill, Turnberry. Will return soon as its just Midnight here. Good night and god Bless Best tRegards Ken berry
