Have had the genealogical bug for around 2 - 3years- on and off. I have put together various famiily trees - Pat/Mat ernal - but interested to trace back on Paternal side initially. Traced G x 2 gandfather by way of various censae. George Melville LOUISSON - states born in PORTSMOUTH, HANTS 1801 and in Whitechapel until death 1883, but have no evidence of Birth Marriage and Parents etc - Can anyone help or give leads
Thanks

Welcome to the Forum. This looks like the marriage of his daughter Caroline Louisson courtesy of Ancestry's London Parish Registers:

27 February 1866 at St Mary Whitechapel Alfred GOULDING, full age, bachelor, Gentleman, Islington, father John GOULDING, Upholsterer married Caroline LOUISSON, full age, spinster, Whitechapel, father George Melville LOUISSON, Umbrella Manufacturer. Witnesses: Charles George FRANCIS & William WHITE.

Do you have census records for George? He is in the 1871 census of Whitechapel, described as a widower, aged 65, Retired Umbrella Maker, born Portsmouth living at 30 Lanan? St with children Phoebe, aged 36, Flora aged 30, Sophia DAVIS aged 27 widow, Julia aged 23 and grandchildren Florence & Davina DAVIS plus 1 visitor and 1 servant.

In the 1861 census he is at 30 Leman Street with wife Julia aged 59 born Whitechapel the above children plus daughter Caroline aged 26 and sister in law Rachel ISAACS who is married aged 64 a Fundholder born in Jamaica (Montego Bay in the 1871 census - she is the visitor).

I can't find a marriage for him so far, but doing a Google Book search on him brings up a snippet in "The Jewish Victorian" Genealogical Information from Jewish Newspapers ... at 30 Leman Street, aged 65, beloved and affectionate wife to George LOUISSON deeply lamented and regretted by her family ... See George M LOUISSON husband, Frederick LOUISSON son and Annie ISAACS daughter in law

It might therefore be a good idea to post a specific request about Jewish ancestors as I am afraid I know nothing whatsover about this subject but I am sure someone on the Forum will.
