Since the B-G Crew came to the rescue with my difficult to read certificate (thank you!), I've got a meaty problem to get your teeth into. Civil registration is useless at this timeframe, so it's parish registers all the way baby! :)

In 1816 are three baptism entries in St.Oswald's church for Roger Kynaston Wilde (b.1811), Henry Kynaston Wilde (b.1813) and Letitia Kynaston Wilde (b.1815), all children of Henry and Letitia Wilde. Roger is my wife's ancestor.

Considering that all three children (that I know of) have Kynaston in their name, I'm making the huge assumption that Letitia's maiden name was Kynaston. This is backed up by a marriage between Henry Wild and Letitia Kynaston in June 1810 at St.Sepulchre church in London*. Roger was born in Feb 1811, 8 months later.

My problem is that I can only find 2 ladies called Letitia Kynaston. One is Letitia Frances Kynaston who married William Selwyn. I know it's not her because they married in 1801 and she died a Selwyn in 1842.
The other is Letitia Kynaston, daughter of Sir Edward Kynaston, 2nd bart of Harkwick and his wife Letitia Owen. This one was born in 1791 and baptised at St.Chad's in Shrewsbury*. Now this one apparently died a spinster in 1834 and was interred at Risby, Suffolk (where the Kynastons of Hardwick had another home). I've even written to Col.J.R.Kynaston of Hardwick, the current holder of the Hardwick title, and he can't find any information that suggests Letitia ever married.

Just to muddy the waters some more, I've found an entry in the National Burial Index v2 for Letitia Wilde, buried 8 Mar 1819, aged 28, at St.Oswald's church Oswestry. The age would put her as born in 1791.

<Speculation>
This is what I believed happened.
I believe Letitia Kynaston got pregnant with Henry Wild in the summer of 1810. Her father (not only a baronet but also a Reverend) sent her off to London to get married.
Roger was born Feb 1811 in Oswestry.
Henry was born 1813 in Oswestry.
Letitia was born 1815 in Oswestry.
I reckon that she was told to leave her young family behind to come back to the family home at Hardwick. Her death was somehow faked and she lived out the remaining 15 years as a spinster.
</Speculation>

"Miss Kynaston" even gets a couple of mentions in the Darwin Correspondence in 1834.

I know it's more likely that there were two Letitia Kynastons, but without proof of two ladies I'm left with a conspiracy theory to explain the information I have to hand. I still suspect that 'my' Letitia was the daughter of Edward Kynaston and Letitia Owen. Can anyone shed some light on this, or find another Letitia who married a Henry Wild(e) in the early 1800's?

Thanks for the info.
I had a look at it but if it refers to anyone, it's probably the son Henry, not the father Henry.

What about Kynaston wills? Have you had a look at any local & PCC to see if Letitia is mentioned in any? Just because you've only found two doesn't mean there wasn't another you haven't found, probably a cousin of some degree. I would also see what Kynaston couples were having children about the time of her birth, to see where she might fit in. In business problems, it's usually cockup not conspiracy; in genealogy, it's incomplete information. pw:)

Just to update how things went after this thread, I found that "my" Letitia Kynaston was almost certainly Letitia Kynaston Moody, bap.Jan 1792 in Oswestry. I've since found her parents and grandparents, as well as a number of parallel uncles, aunts and cousins. I've started another thread in Brickwalls asking for help with her grandparent's marriage in 1730-1734.

Thanks to everyone who helped. :)
