It has taken me many months to trace my ancesters and have got a far as 1949. My grandfather was Thomas Henry Davies, Landlord of the Royal Oak in Long coleham in Shrewsbury from 1937 to Feb. 1949. From then it came under the lisence of my Grandmother, Henretta Davies untill Nov. 1949. Thomas Henry was born 1896, Henretta born 1901. My predicment is I cannot trace any death dates for either parties or of their daughter (my mother) who gave the pubs address at the time of her marriage in 1945, her name being Florance May davies who married a William Edwin Morris. All help appreciated

Where have you searched so far?
Have you tried the Probate Calendar to link for wills/admons? The Probate Calendar is easy to search, available at most/all county record offices ('phone your nearest office to check for availability and if you ned o book a film reader) and contains sbstantially more detail than the GRO index of deaths.

There is a Shrewsbury registration for Henrietta Davies in 1954. She was 63 years old. 9a/194
There are three in Shrewsbury for a Thomas H Davies.
1950 age 83 - 9a/159
1948 age 56 - 9a/167
1948 age 65 - 9a/194
But the deaths may not have been registered in Shrewsbury.
Any idea roughly when Florence May Morris died?

Thank you Geoffers and Mutley for your quick replies. I,m Living in Cornwall Geoffers so a long way from any Office to check Shropshire Records, and thank you Mutley, but the years seem to be out by ten years as I have the birth certificate for Thomas Henry whose birth is given as 13/10/1894. As for Florance May, I was told she died about 1986. It's all very vague to me. Regards Tomcat

The Probate Calendar which I mentioned covers the whole country and also includes British nationals who died abroad whose will was subject to probate here. So you don't actually need to go to Shropshire to use the calendar.

Hi Janet, I do believe you have cracked it for me. I have a friend who lives in Shrewsbury and has been investigating family for me, he being on the front line as you may say. I suppose my next move will be to send for her death certificate. Once again, thank you so much, you have made my day. Tomcat.
