William Shannon was my 2x great grandfather who died in 1882 on the Downpatrick to Newcastle railway,it was described as a "melancholy accident" in the Down Recorder at the time. If anyone has anymore information I would be grateful.

Hi skippy contact Ballynahinch Library they have old copies of the Down Recorder on microfilm. I know from personal experience they are very helpful. Their e-mail is ballynahinchlibrary@librariesni.org.uk and their address is Main Street, Ballynahinch, Co Down.

Hi Skippy,
The Belfast News Letter of July 11 1882 has a report of the inquest, detailing the accident. It's a bit gruesome. If you can't access the Library newspaper collections, let me know and I'll send you the report via a PM.
