I wonder if anybody knows about the 2nd East Yorkshire Regt during February 1945, my wifes grand uncle was wounded on the 27th Feb 1945 in North west europe, so we are trying to find out how he may have been wounded. His war records only state WOUNDED IN ACTION and the date and location, so it would be nice to know what they were engaged in at the time. Any help would be appreciated.

You could try the "East Yorks Living History Group" just Google them.

They are a re-enactment group and the main focus of the group is the north-west European campaign of 1944/45.

They say that they are in regular contact with a number of 2nd Battalion WW2 East Yorks veterans who support our aims in keeping their old regiment in the public eye.

The war diary of the 2nd battalion East Yorkshire Regiment is at the National Archives

The period you want (covering Jan - Sep 1945) is under WO 171/5293

You can inspect it in person - or apply for the cost to download a copy here
- http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/displaycataloguedetails.asp?CATID=5459920&CATLN=6&Highlight=%2CEAST%2CYORKSHIRE&accessmethod=0

He is unlikely to be named but it should give you a general feel for what was going on - albeit with a degree of military jargon

Good Luck

The 2nd East Yorks were part of the 8th Infantry Brigade, which in turn was part of the 3rd Infantry Division. Between the 8th Feb and 11th March '45 the Division was part of Operation Veritable, and was fighting around the Reichswald Forest.

On that particular day the Regiment lost 40 men. A look at the Diary will show exactly what caused the casualties.

EDIT:

though a wargaming site, they have the events of that day setup for a scenario:
