I am not sure whether I share ancestry, but there is a PINNEY family link by marriage to the Strawbridge groups of Devon (around 1830's); both names appear in my ancestry. Chardstock is a bit borderline between Devon and Somerset.
Sarah Pinney born c1809 (mother Hannah; father's first name not known) married James Strawbridge in Chardstock on 12th July 1832. Sarah, however, seems to be from Axminster, Devon; so it might not be the same family group as yours. Unfortunately I havent managed to go back any further, but it may or may not be of interest to you.

My husband has a Chardstock Pinney as a step-relative and I have a large family tree, based on Parish Registers, Census material, old Wills etc. - I can e-mail it to anyone interested, as a PDF.

Hi, everyone. I have just found this thread and am interested as I am descended (through my paternal grandmother) to this family group. I have details of these families from both CREWKERNE and CHARDSTOCK. I would be happy to share info with maggym or others. I would like to see the info that Gail E has on offer, please. My personal address is jhjohnpeet@ntlworld.com

I've recently managed to add a little more to my own Pinney line, and although some christenings took place in Chardstock, the individuals seem to have "drifted off" elsewhere, to live.
Here is my small bit, if it is of any interest to anyone:
Thomas Pinney (date, birthplace not confirmed) married Alice_____.
Their children included a Johnathan Pinney, christened October 1773 in Chardstock.
Jonathan married a Hannah COLLIER in 1798, Axminster.
Their children included Mary Pinney (c1802), Elizabeth Pinney (c1806), Sarah Pinney(1809) and a Hannah Collier Pinney (c1811) all chr. at Chardstock.
No Gosneys, unfortunately.

Following a trip round the Devon, Dorset & Somerset Records Offices, I have some extracts of Apprenticeship Indentures, Settlement Examinations, Bastardy papers etc., all mentioning Pinney surname or derivatives. I have also found the old copy Wills & Probate I have for this surname.
I will type up the list and e-mail it to everyone currently on this thread as at 6 Jan 2007 - if anyone else sees it at a later date, and is interested, let me know and I will forward it.

hi
I appreciate it has been a long time since this thread began and to it's last message. I have recently been tracing my late Uncles ancestors. He was Reginald George Penney of Guernsey. With the help of the Priaulx Library in St Peter Port we have traced his Family of Penney/Pinney back to Crewkerne and to William Pinney (1774-1855) and Sarah Gosney (1775-1850). It's possible that
Williams Father was John Pinney (unknown dates) and Sarah Gosney (1753-nkd). There was an elder Brother John of 1770.
It appears that the first of this line to leave Crewkerne for Guernsey were the children of George Penney (1806-1847) and Mary Cook 1811-1903), Mary died in St Peter Port, Guernsey, possibly joined her children sometime after Georges death. Most of the Family were Stonecrackers on Guernsey.
I would like to contact anyone who may be able to confirm the details I have of the Pinney Family in Crewkerne prior to George of 1806.
A PM or email would be most welcomed
Thank you TonyE
