I have been told that my pm box is 90% full. Inbox contains 20 and "you have 50 messages stored of a total 75 allowed" and (empty folder) in blue.
Fine. Now what folder am I emptying? Is it all the messages in the inbox, sent box or, wherever it is, the deleted messages box.
And yes I AM having a Blonde/grey day:D

Hi Vanessa,
it should be the total of all the messages in your In Box and your Sent Box. Once you delete messages they are not included in the count.
I hope that is what you were asking.:)

To Vanessa and all blonde/greys, and anyone else who has or hasn't hair of any colour, :D
Baby steps -
click 'user CP'
in 'your control panel' scroll down to 'private messages' and click on 'list messages'.
Top box headed 'private messages in folder: inbox'.
Inbox contains (number) messages.
You have (number) messages stored, of a total (number) allowed.
Followed by a clickable 'empty folder' in blue. I would not advise doing this as there could be a message you wanted to save but had forgotten about. If you did click on it, you would empty all the PMs received by you.
Scroll down, and you will find, in reverse date just as in the main forum, a list of all the PMs received by you.
Click on one to read. If you wish to keep this, just click on the back button to return to the list.
If you decide that the message isn't worth keeping, click on the back button to return to the list, and on the right-hand side of the page you will find a box against the message. Click the box. (make sure it's ticked - the 'strip' should go a beige-y sort of colour).
Scroll down to the bottom of the page, where there's a blue strip with 'selected messages' and a drop-down box. Select 'delete' and then press the 'go' button.
Repeat as necessary. :)
Sometimes you might not want to delete a message until you know what you wrote to someone.
Back to top of page and the 'Top box headed 'private messages in folder: inbox'. Inbox contains (number) messages.'
Underneath the fancy colours you have a drop down box which if you alter from 'inbox' to 'sent items' by selecting and then clicking 'go', will take you to a list of all the message you've sent.
To delete those messages, follow the same procedure as for the inbox items.
When you get a little more used to the system, you can be clever and start to delete several messages at once. Just click the boxes of the ones you want to delete, scroll to bottom of page and select 'delete' and click 'go'. ( Please note that the messages all have to be in the same 'folder' - either inbox or sent items.)
Hope this is slightly clearer than mud. :)
If not, do what you normally do - yell. :D

I find it easier to delete as I go. Once I have received an answer to a PM I normally delete both the incoming and outgoing message. If I want to keep a message, I put it in a separate folder (I have two of those, one entitled Archived Messages and the other Competition Entries - you can call yours whatever you want)
To create an Archive folder
Go to User CP
Click on Edit Folders under Private Messages
Scroll down to Add New Folder and type in a name.
Click Save New Folder
Now, when you want to keep a message, check its box and select Move from the option bar at the bottom.
Simples! (also avoids accidental deletion of important messages when you are emptying the Inbox ;)

Thank you Pam |hug| I guess I wasn't too blonde/grey then as that's what I started doing.
Sue - a marvellous idea which I didn't know about - I actually didn't need to use it before, but now I do. Thank you all for your wisdom|hug|

You are so sensible V to ask before you did anything.
In my ignorance I just empty the box when they say it is full and so everything goes... I know not where... and one or two I do so wish I'd saved.
What seems so simple to some is desperately difficult for others to comprehend.M

You would think I should know these things but I don't |blush|, but this time there were a few I really wanted to keep. I am now organized once again :D
