Elizabeth NATHAN was born December 1855, the daughter of John NATHAN and Sarah GREEN. She became an Actress and was given a job at the Theatre Royal, LIverpool in 1876.
She married John Charles GUILFOYLE-SEYMOUR, an Irish Actor and as a result of this their children were brought up in the Catholic faith.
Elizabeth was my great grandmother and I had no idea that she had been born into a Jewish family until I began looking for my family history. Now I would like to find any descendants of the siblings that remained in the UK - I have contact with the descendants of the ones that went to Australia.
I would also like to find the records - if there are any - of the births of her two sons. Charles and Daniel GUILFOYLE.
I am also keen to learn more about Jewish life in 19th century London.

I also woud be interested to find out about that time. It is family oral history that Isaac BROWN who married Louisa MARSHFIELD in 1849 St Pancras Old Church London was Jewish. Hoping to find out from marriage certificate if that is true. I have no other information about him. Any ideas.

I wouldn't have thought it would say on the marriage certificate whether or not he was Jewish. It will give his father's name and an address and that can be looked up in the street directories and then the 1851 census to see if they are still at the same address. It might be possible to find his parents marriage and that might be the point where you "discover" his faith.
