This is my first posting, I hope someone can throw some light on this for me. I am trying to find out about my grandfather's navy career, can anyone explain the following, in particular the meaning of N.A.N. 48734.
An entry for him in the 1914-18 Moray Role of Honour reads as follows:- McKenzie George. No. N.A.N. 48734, Mercantile Marine Engineer, Boom Repair Ship; born at Aberdeen, 10th. Sept., 1877, brought up at Hopeman, Morayshire; joined at Inverness, 1914; served in Home Waters.
Thank You.
