I have my Great Grandfathers name and service no.
SGT David Clark, 3-2761, Royal Highlanders (Black Watch).
The National archives had his medal card I just had to
read the numbers more carefully as their are six medal cards
to each page, all for different David Clarks, all Royal Highlanders!
Does any one know of any service records kept anywhere for the
Blackwatch other than the "Burnt Records" at Kew? Or are they my
only hope of finding my gr.grandfathers next of kin, so that I can
double check information I already have from Scotlands people?

Check into the NA records before giving up. Many of the records were not burnt and even in the "burnt series" some have been recovered. We have successfully located a WWI service record that ran 69 pages.
If the record you want was burnt there may be other sources for info. Since you mention next of kin try to contact the folks who hold the original medal cards to see whether your card has an address on the reverse side. I think the cards are now held by the Western Front Association.
Also, if he was killed in WWI the War Graves commission may have some information. I was impressed with the depth of their information.
Good Luck!

Thankyou for that Anna, I have found out from the western front association all about the Black Watch Museum and it seems that they have some information up there.
I have managed to get a marriage certificate, not only did it have his usual residence and service numbers - it also had his parents and where he was posted. The witnesses were both soldiers!
I am still trying to find out about Higg in Edinburgh.

Thanks for your help everyone on David Clark b.1895 no.3/2761
I got his medal card and have had it interpreted.
I have his marriage cert - Which has his no. on it
He was based a Nigg in Edinburgh.
I know his parents names now
I have his parents marriage cert
I have his parents death certs
I still can't find his birth cert, or his brothers? Weird
It looks like he was special reserve after WW1, probably because he was a trained engineer.
I think I have enough now. I am going to work on finding his birth cert.
Thankyou Mel.
