I seem to have come to standstill with research into my GGG Grandm./f.
James Sheldon and Margaret Wood were married in Eyam 28 Aug. 1815. Margaret was C. at Eyam Parish Church 07 March 1790.( John Wood/Ann) no sign of James. All this is from the IGI. I have looked at the church records and could not get any further. They moved to M/c although they must still have had family in Eyam because in 1818 they went back to Eyam for the christening of their child Ann. Can anyone point me in the direction of additional resources for this family and/area?
Help much appreciated

Do you have James SHELDON in Manchester on the 1841 & 1851 census returns?
UK
I am sure you are aware of Margaret Sheldon on the 1861 census at Salford, she is a widow born Eyam, Derbyshire. Ref RG9/2926. She is living with her daughter and Son in law John Bury and various Sheldon grandchildren. There is a James Sheldon reg dead in June 1/4 1856 at Manchester.

Hi Jenjen,
I'm most interested in your WOOD family of Eyam.
In Wetton, not too far away (where they were tenants of the Duke of Derbyshire), I have John WOOD who married Ann SHELDON, in 1797. Children were: Hannah (1797), Thomas (1799), Sarah (1802), Ann (1804 - 1824), John (1806 - my gg-grandfather), James (1810), Samuel (1812), Eliza (1815).
The 1824 burial of their daughter, Ann, is the last ref I have found for them in Wetton (from both PRs & BTs). Their son, John, moved to Ashton under Lyne some time before 1834. He had married Mary Ann CORDEN (b Uttoxeter 1808).
Incidentally: EYAM BURIALS - 20 Jul 1823 Wm WOOD murdered 23
A William WOOD of Eyam was a historian
Kind regards
Blanche

Now that I am home I can respond to several recent postings.
I do have Margaret Sheldon on both 1851 and 1861 census. In both she is a w. so I must assume James was dead by this time. I do not have her on the 1841 census, although I know she was living on Cross Lane(Pendleton/Salford) This from a directory.
As Margaret was born in 1790 I'm sorry to say that it is unlikely that the John and Ann mentioned by Blanche are her parents.
I suppose the "murdered" William Wood could be a relative. That would lend color to the family story. Thank-you for the links. The view from the memorial is beautiful. I hope, one day, to be in that part of the country.
If anyone has info. on Sheldons in the vicinity I would be interested as I have not been able to find out where James came from. His daughter states on her marriage certificate that he was a farmer but, if that were the case, why would he move to Mnchester?
The search goes on.
