I said I was having a rest, but I would like to crack this one. I wonder if anyone with a sub to Scotland's People could just put me in the right direction to buy the following birth cert.
Are you ready for this?...
Alice Louisa Raynsford MacKenzie born 1854-ish in Aberdeenshire (how helpful)
Dad was Sir James Thompson MacKenzie of Glenmuick (1818-1890).
I have only one census ref where she states an actual county in Scotland - for which I'm grateful. I'd really like to get this one for my collection and to find Mum, so if some kind soul can tell me if it's there, I'll be happy to send off the dosh. :D
Thanks in advance, folks.

As far as I understand it, it is all credits on Scotlands People; I had a few left, but it seems they have expired!!
You can search without credits; nothing came up in the parish records, prior to 1854, but one match for Alice Louise in the civil registration lists. I cannot view it - because my credits have expired ..!!
Sorry ..!!

Likewise I can find nothing for Alice in the parish records which run up to 1854 or in the civil records which start at 1855. The only Alice Mackenzie I can see near the right date is in Ayrshire 1856. I think the Alice Louise is later.
One possible parish record birth for James Thomson McKenzie, Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen parish 1818.
Will of James Thompson Mackenzie of Glenmuick 1891, 56 pages, £5 to view (on Scotlands People). That does look interesting.
Google brings up the peerage website http://www.thepeerage.com/p20651.htm which has the family with parents and generations before, and brother for Alice. Don't know how accurate it is.
Also lots of Mackenzies at Glenmick in igi, tho not James or Alice that I can see.

56 pages! Good heavens - did he leave money to half of Aberdeenshire :D Still, a fiver isn't bad to view any documents that can help put flesh on etc....
Thanks for your help - you too Barbara. I'll try the Peerage site - I've also found that it can be corroborated through the online Burke's etc, so I make well take a look - at least I may get a lead on where to turn for the BMDs and certs. I have found references on there before that I have managed to bolster with certificates, PRs etc., so I don't entirely dismiss it out of hand.
Thanks for your help gals.

You can search without credits;
As Barbara says, you can search Scotlands People without using credits, but to view anything you need to pay. Scotland's People does not have a subscription system where you can view all the records for free. If you register with the site yourself, then you can do your own searching.
Also, as Grisel points out, civil BMD registration in Scotland only started in 1855, so if your ancestor was born in 1854 then there will be no certificate.

Thanks for the tips, as always, Wirral. That will be another four hours digging on a new site :D ;) I'm sure genealolgy is a greater addiction than anything other vice known to man.

Don't think of it as hard work - think of it as honing your skills & adding new tools to your genealogy digging equipment. :)
