I am looking for a record of the birth, baptism of or 1861 Census entry for Benjamin BROUGH who, according to entries in the 1871, 1881 and 1891 Censuses, was born c. 1852-1853 at either Hanley or Burslem in Staffordshire.

Benjamin BROUGH started off working as a coal miner in Shelton, Staffordshire (1871), but he moved to Derbyshire soon after, where he married Evangelina DAWES (1853-) at Chesterfield in 1875. Over the next few years the family moved several times - presumably following work - from Morton (1876) to Pilsley (1878), Stanton Hill (Notts, 1879), Hasland (1881), Grassmoor (1882) and finally Chesterfield (1886).

I the mid-1880s, he appears to have become a "Lanternist and Photographer", specializing in taking photographs of "Schools and Gentlemens' Residences" and was shown as such, living at 69 Sheffield Street, Chesterfield in the census of April 1891.

Benjamin BROUGH died in 1893 (Mar Qtr, Burton Regn Dist), aged 39.

I would be grateful for any further sightings of this gentleman, for inclusion in the profile that I'm building up for him. This will be included on my web site. If anyone has any photographs by this gentleman, I would very much appreciate scans to add to the collection.

Thank you very much.

Regards and best wishes,

Brett

Dear Pam,

Thanks very much for your kind lookup. I have just checked all of these references for the 1861 Census of Burslem against the images on Rod's CD-ROMs, and none of them have a Benjamin BROUGH, unfortunately. However, I'm very grateful for your help!

Does anyone else have access to the 1861 Census index of Hanley, please, to save me trawling through the entire set of images of Hanley?

Regards and best wishes,

Brett
