If you use the 1881 census online, you can "walk" the enumeration district and look out for landmarks which still exist.


If you look at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/ and look at the Sreaview/Nettlestone Point area you'll see the Salterns area and some other places mentioned in the census enumeration district.

Thank you very much, Ann and Peter. I can see some buildings on the Seaview map which I assume would be Salterns Cottages. This is wonderful as I can now match it with a modern OS map.

I'm sure the website will come in handy a lot more in the future.
