I am hoping to find out some extra detail on William and Esther (Branch) Raikes aka Rake
William was born abt 1785 in Benloce, Somerset, while Esther was born abt 1798 in Publow, Somerset.
They married on 4 apr 1821 in the Parish of Publow. A daughter, Martha Ann, was born abt 1823 in Queen Charlton. She married a William Bevan in 1847.
The only record I can find is the 1871 Census which locates them in Queen Charlton. They were listed as paupers?
Did they have more children? Any clue as to their dates of death?
Thanks in advance!

Depends what company you use. On Ancestry -
1. Go to the appropriate search page eg the page headed "1861 England Census".
2. Ensure that Advanced Search Options are showing.
3. Enter the data from the reference in the Piece, Folio and Page# fields at the bottom of the page. Do not enter anything else.
4. Ancestry then provides a list of names. Click any one of them - they are all on the same page.
On FMP, from the person search page, select "Census reference search"

Hi Peter,
I am using Ancestry. I believe that they may have changed their system because I can't find Piece, Folio or Page on the Advance screen - could you check and see if I am right, or, am I still doing somthing wrong? Also what is FMP?

Hi Eric when you go into the 1861 census for example, it is listed First name /last name/residence/birthplace/family members etc.
At the bottom of the page you will see Census with a ref of RG 9 just enter the other numbers that Peter has given you and enter search.
I have just checked out your ancestors this way.
Any problems let me know!
Best Regards

Hi Keyboard86,
Thanks for the prompt reply!
I am still having trouble.
I am using ancestry.com.au
I click on 'Search' then 'Census and Voter Lists"
The Search Panel appears with Name etc, etc
I scroll down to 'Go Directly to specific Title or Collection'
I click on '1861 England Census'
Same Search Panel appears but NO RG 9 or page or folio
I scroll down further and find 'Please select a County'
I click on 'Somerset'
I am then invited to "Choose a Civil Parish'
I click on 'Queen Charlton'
I then click on 'District 5' and get the original census page and a cramped list of people.
I must be doing somthing wrong or "com.au" has a different set up?

Hi Eric I think your last para re different set up answers it, there has got to be another way.
I am hoping someone will advise, as I have no idea.
Sorry

Hi Eric,
You need to be using the "Old Search" option.
Click on 'Search' then 'Census and Voter Lists"
The Search Panel appears with Name etc, etc
I scroll down to 'Go Directly to specific Title or Collection'
I click on '1861 England Census'
Click on "Old Search" - it is just below the tool bar that contains "Home, Family Tree, Search etc. It is to the right of the screen. Depending on your settings you may need to scroll to the right to see it.
You will then need to select "Census and Voter Lists" just below "the heading for "Historical Records".
