Could SKS with access to the 1861 census find William Sugden (b. Yorkshire 1830) probably married to Eliza and with a son Frederick W in Kidderminster.
FreeBMD shows a marriage in 1855 but no spouse listed. Many thanks.

Do you know at which Church they married ? It could narrow the Census search.
The 1861 is not indexed and covers 3 and bit Cd's.

William Sugden was a complete unknown until I discovered him 2 weeks ago; born in Oakworth, Keighley, Yorks. in 1830, and dying in Abergavenny in 1902. Between times he was a timber and coal merchant in Kidderminster, Malvern, Oswestry, and several places in Wales. He appears to have been married 2 or 3 times. He was involved in the coal trade in several towns with my great grandfather. He was in Kidderminster between 1855 and 1870, but I have no other details. Will have to send for certificates.

Excellent Lottie,

That makes sense ... came from Yorkshire where he was probably involved in the weaving industry. I'm currently trawling through www.historicaldirectories.org (http://www.historicaldirectories.org)
trying to find him as a coal merchant in South Wales. One hit so far in Brecon.
many thanks for your time and I await with baited breath for more.

Many thanks for that Lottie, hope it wasn't too much of an ordeal. The sight of brothers Robert and John explains their appearance on later censuses and marriages in Kidderminster.

I only have partial info on 1971 from an unsubscribed Ancestry search.
I found all these Sugdens in Kidderminster ...
Ann age 35 born Worcs
Arthur M 11 London
Clara S 5mths Worcs
Edith Mary 3 Worcs
George W 2 Worcs
Martha Ann 13 Worcs
Robert 26 York
Sarah Ann 6 Worcs
Louisa M 24 Worcs
Martha J 4 Worcs
Edith K 4 Wolverly

I assume that some of these are Robert/Louisa's children.

So Yes .... if you could let me have the actual 1871 census page info that would be most helpful.

Thank you Jo
One or two members have asked about them...
The first lines are by William Allingham, Irish poet (1824-89)
The second are from Walt Whitman's "Song of Myself"
