Another lonely place ....!! (See St Columb Minor!!)

Still trying to place JOHN BENNEY who married MARY CORNISH 15 October 1780 in St Clement, Truro.

Another thought is that he was the unbaptised son of Michael and Frances BENNEY of St Ervan - you can see I am clutching at straws now, although the names of his children and grandchildren do reflect the names Michael and Frances;)

MICHAEL BENNY of St Meryn and FRANCES EPLETT of St Ervan were married by Banns 21 September 1745 at St Ervan and I have found the following in the PR on a visit to Truro

MICHAEL, son of Michael and Frances Benney, baptised 24 January 1752

(this fits with the Michael Benney buried at St Clement)

MARY, daughter of Michael and Frances Benney, baptised 5 March 1763

I could not find anything further - but the fiche was very faint (my excuse!)

It seems a long time between their marriage in 1745 to the baptism of their first child in 1752 - so maybe there are some unbaptised children - or maybe I just could not find them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - this quest has been going on for some years ....:D

Not atall lonely except on this forum at the moment :D Now Michael and Frances Benny nee Eplett only christened three children in St Ervan. They married in 1745 and christened Michael 1752, Thomas 1756 and Mary 1763. I do not think that these were all they had so where were they meantime?? I suspect flitting in and out of St Ervan for some reason. You could be right about the Truro baptism. Frances Eplett's parents were a Richard and Mary. Do these names feature in the offspring too?

John and Mary in St Clement had children called John, William, Michael, Frances, Mary and Richard - so the only one not accounted for is Thomas!!!! That name does not appear in later generations either.

Does seem like a possibility - but how on earth to prove it? Do you have any indication in your records where Michael and Frances might have been flitting to and fro from????

Thanks for the information:)

Sorry Barbara I do not have that information at present but they are tagged with your details so if I find out I can let you know. Could you send me what you have on John? I will enter him and hope to make a join up later

It looks as if they were using the naming tradition and, though there is no proof, I would say this is the likeliest scenario.
