Hi all.
I sent for my father's R.A.F. Record on the 15th July, stateing his rank number, full name and place of birth and the camp where he was last stationed,so far it as taken 8 weeks and 3 days and still waiting for his record to be posted to my home address. I just wonder if anyone can tell me what the hold up could be, as initially I thought waiting 6 weeks was the maximum.
I just have this strange feeling that as he had a double barrelled surname that he may have dropped the surname that I am known by in favour of the name Brodie when he was in the R.A.F.
Any advice on what I can do now would be appreciated.
Thanks

Do you have/can you find by hook or crook :) a phone number for the address you sent your request to?
If so, they should be able to tell you if there is a delay in the processing of requests.

Update as to Delay in R.A.F. Records. I left a message on their answerphone and they phoned me back, they have managed to find my request under a pile of papers and hadn't been looked at yet after 8 weeks and 4 days.

Thanks for the update Pauline.
At least they phoned back. :)
Presumably they didn'tactually say if there is an extended delay beyond the six weeks. Sounds as if your request might have been mislaid, and if so with a bit of luck you might hear the postman's knock within the next couple of weeks.
Fingers crossed for you.

If you have been waiting longer than 6 weeks it might be worthwhile phoning them, even if it is to jog their memory. Good Luck :)

Still no R.A.F. Record as arrived. I wrote to the Office again on the 4th Jan 10 Just to Jog their memory, so I guess I'll have to wait some more |banghead|
I's almost 6 months now since I sent off for my father's R.A.F. Records along with a £30.00 postal order.|help|

Thanks v wells,
Will do. Oh dear I have had an email back from a lady up in Scotland who says that her brother inlaw remembers the name who I am asking about and he seems to think that he was a Naval Man. How does one go from the R.A.F. to Navy was there any age restrictions as he would have been 30 plus.
On my mother's marriage certificate and that of my birth certificate he was with the R.A.F. I have checked the rank numbers on both certificates and they match up.

"seems to think" is not close enough for your "match up". What does your instinct tell you is the right one?
