Any Brightons in the area at the time appear to have been related. Do you need more specific information to search your transcriptions for me? Any info is very much appreciated!

TIA,
Trish

Hi Trish,

I cannot find any BRIGHTON names at all. I have BRIGHTMAN and BRITTON which are similar, but no match and not in St. Germans. Perhaps George moved into the area after my transcription dates.

CORNISH, eh? I have a bit of a 'loose end" with a CORNISH surname. My great-great grandad's third partner & second wife (but not my great-great grandma) was the widow of one William CORNISH, for whom I have little info except that he married Maria CURTIS (or CURTISS or CORTISS) of Norwich, Norfolk, in about 1827 and died some time before 1850, possibly in Redruth District, June quarter 1838 (Vol.IX, p.16?). Maria and William had one son, George, born about 1828 for whom I have only the 1841 Census info "Hook Row, Redruth, George Cornish, 12, Tinman Apprentice, Not in County", living with his mother in what appears to be some kind of boarding house run by one Grace MARTIN.

I'm not particularly fussed by the absence of info on this chap or his son George, but it is just a tiny bit annoying to have him sitting there on the tree so close to my paternal line, all incomplete.

Perhaps George moved into the area after my transcription dates. Thanks for doing a search, Bo Peep. I suspect you're right. George BRIGHTON was born in Exeter [St. Mary Major] in 1822 so he likely landed at Maker, Cornwall, married and had children all after 1840. George's wife, Agnes Hicks WARREN, was born in Plymstock so her side won't show up on your records either.

Again, thanks for looking.

Afraid you may have to have him sitting a bit longer, I have looked at all my records of Williams but he doesnt appear in any sorry good luck in your search

Thanks for looking, anyway. He could, after all, have come from across the Tamar or (oh the horror of the thought!) from further afield.:D

Hello

I've tried to post a reply 3 times now, so if this is deleted as well, I'll give up trying to help people with their research.

An 85-year-old George BRIGHTON was buried in the Parish of Calstock on 12 Jun 1885. I presume that he was related to the family mentiond in a previous message.

It's likely that the family were in this parish because within its boundaries is Cotehele House, part of the Mount Edgcombe estate.

Please let me know if I can provide more details.

Regards

Myra
