Please could SKS take a look at the 1851 census for Maker and see where John Pawley was born. In the 1841 census he was living with wife Ann both ages recorded were 25 they had two children Mary aged 2 and George aged 3.
It was said that he was in County which I take means born in Cornwall but you just never know.
I am looking for a John Pawley born in Winkleigh and as some of his brothers children were found to be living in Maker/Millbrook later on I have begun to wonder what took them to that part of Cornwall. Just maybe their Uncle John was already there!

Thank you Annette.
That information was very helpful in as much as it confims that it it not John Pawley of similar age who was born in Winkleigh, Devon. My other lead has also proved to be the wrong John so it is back to the drawing board.

There a quite a few other Pawleys in Maker in that census. They include:
George Pawley,Servnt,U,26,,Farm Lab,Modbury Cornwall (Modbury is in fact in Devon) he's living at Insworth, Maker
HO107/1900 ED 1a Folio 31 Page 54 Sched 262
There was quite a lot of work related to the Navy, Torpoint is very close and had close links with the Navy, HMS Raleigh springs to mind.
Plymouth and it's dockyards are literally only around the corner. Possibly when times were hard working on the land it presented an alternative & was possibly better than living in Devonport/East Stonehouse.

Thanks to all who helped with this question.
My John Pawley was born in Winkleigh approx 1819 to parents John and Mary. I have never found him after his baptism enrty in the Church Records.
I was interested in the Maker area because I have in the 1850's another member of the Pawley family John Angell Pawley marrying a Mary Ann Finch from Millbrook. They lived in the Maker/Rame area all their married life and I did wonder if another relative may have drawn John Angell to the Maker area or if it was just a coincidence, Maker not being easy to get to even today. Or perhaps John and Mary Ann met in the Plymouth area and went back to her home village to live.
