For the life of me I can't find the note Rod posted weeks ago on how to add Smileys within the text (as opposed to in one's signature or title). I hit every drop down box I can find but I only seem to be able to add one to the title. I hasten to add that I'd never use one because it's much too childish.....but just in case :-).

Also how do you take a quote from an earlier posting and "en-box" it within the text?

Finally is there any way to reply without having to re-type the subject (which of course disappears after you hit the Reply button)?

Hi Tony, I've not see the post you talk about, so I can't help you find it. But I have used a similar board to this very regularly for the last 9 months, so I'll try to help you with what I know :)

To get the smilies: On the menu towars the top of the screen, click on "User CP". On the page that appears there is a menu on the left handside. Click on the part which says "Edit Options". Scroll down to the bottom of this page to the section titled "Miscillaneous Options". The drop down box in that section has the options for "basic editor", "standard editor" and something else I can't remember. I believe the default option is basic editor, but the standard editor option will give you the smilies menu on the "reply to thread" screens. So select the "standard editor2 option and click on the "save" buttton at the bottom of the screen.

I'm not sure what you mean with the quoting. If it's simply a question on how you quote, then simply click on the "quote" button situated within each post to quote the post in question. If it's about quoting multiple posts at once, I could give a more detailed answer :)

Again, I'm not exactly sure what you mean about retyping the subject. Thopugh if you mean what I think, there i no need to have a subject for your reply if you do not want to. You can have the same one as the thread title, make your own up, or not have one. If you do want the same as the original thread title then you can either "copy" it before clicking on reply, and "paste" it in the box, or you can see it right at the top of the page on the line above the black writing "Reply To Thread", it's the last words on the right hand edge of this line.

I hope this helps :)

Click on 'Quick Links' and from the drop-down menu select 'Edit Options' - scroll down to 'Thread Display' or something like that and tick teh box 'Show Avatars' - you should then be able to add smileys.

When you display thread you want to reply to, click on the 'QUOTE' button.

You'll see the text of the post is incldued in your reply. At the start of the text is a square bracket followed by QUOTE= and then the name of the peson who you are quoting, lastly the square brackets end.

At the end of the quote is another instruction, [/QUOTE] to close the quotation.

As for the subject, just don't type one in if you don't want to.

At the bottom of the page there should be a box called 'Posting Rules', which has a link to what to type to make different smileys.

You can also go to Quick Links > Edit Options and scroll down to Miscellaneous Options. If you change the message editor to 'enhanced' then your smilies appear in a little drop down box when you post a reply. You just click on the one you want and it'll appear where you are typing.

This is just a note to thank Dogtanian and all the other helpful people who sprang to my assistance. I can now smileyiorise to my hearts content and insert quotes too. Neither shall I ever bother to put a heading into a reply. What more could a man ask for?

Answers on a postcard if you intend to break the rudeness rules!:D
