I have just discovered a new great, great grandmother. Her name is Margaret WEL(L)STEAD, born of Elizabeth and Thomas 17th July 1799, in Rye. Whether the family or only she went to Harwich in Essex, where she ended up on hard times, married to my GG grandfather Nathaniel ROZIER/ROZZERO, I do not know.
This is my first connection with Sussex and I would be pleased to link up with anyone else who has WELLSTEAD interests
Also, if anyone has ANY info about this family, such as Thomas and Elizabeth's marriage, I'd be very grateful to hear from you.
Thanks
Robina

Hi Robina

Found this amongst the marriages in Rye

Place: Rye, East Sussex, Date: 8 Oct 1786:
Groom: Thomas WELLSTED, bachelor
Bride: Elizabeth ELDERREAGE, both of this parish, married by Banns
Extra Information: Witness: Thos.WELLSTED; Isaac GATELAND

Sorry, but there is not one single marriage for a Margaret Welstead in Sussex.

It looks as though the Welstead name has been around since 1760 in Rye but back as far as 1688 in nearby Peasmarsh
