Dear Each,
I received, today, a copy of a death certificate for a relation who died whilst in the Union Workhouse, Fulham, in 1881. The cause of death (Old Age) was certified by somebody with the letters LKCP after his name. Do these letters represent a professional title for a medical practisioner? There is no 'Dr' before said signees name. Looking forward to any replies and many thanks in advance!

Hi Reg

Have you seen http://users.ox.ac.uk/~peter/workhouse/Fulham/Fulham1881.html

I wonder if the name of your relative appears on it? I wonder if the staff members name appears on it? Some of the staff, especially the nurses, have letters after their names - but I can't see LKCP.

Could it be something to do with the Coroner? Are the letters easy to read? Does it definitely say LKCP?

Actually, if you haven't already seen it, you may find this whole site of interest: http://users.ox.ac.uk/~peter/workhouse/Fulham/Fulham.shtml

Could it possibly be LRCP (Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians)?

Hiya!
I have that site in my favourites but had forgotten it! Many thanks for reminding me! You would think that I would remember as many of my lot seemed to like it there!
My relly, NOAKES Rebbeca, does not appear on this one but another, Joseph Griffiths,71, Farm Labourer, is almost certainly one of mine. In fact this is why I had the site in favs in the first place!

The name of the staff, sombody Harrison does not appear. The letters are upper case and clearly written.
Many thanks for your reply, once again it was very nice to hear from you.
Whist you are here, and you live in the area, do you know where I will find East Sheen Cemetery and Mortlake Cemetery? I know North Sheen and Mortlake Crem.
I will be going to TNA again this week, anything that I can do?

Dear Lindad and Peter,
Thank you both once again for your help! I have just been to the following site:http://www.bma.org.uk/ap.nsf/Content/doctorsqual#Commonabbreviationsofmedicalq
Where they have (as Peter suggested) LRCP as 'Licentiate of Royal College of Surgeons'.
Ta muchly!

Hi Reg

I always get a bit confused about our local cemetaries... there are so many of them! I think you will find that the 'west' cemetary at Chalkers Corner is the East Sheen/Mortlake one. The 'east' one (combined with the Crem) is for Hammersmith. There is quite a useful website, but I'm not currently on my own PC so don't have my list of favourites to hand. Will send it to you later.

Have a great time at Kew. I've been there several times lately and am in the middle of a lengthy project which involves wading through lots of original documents. Fascinating, but very time consuming! Wish I could take a week off work to get to grips with it once and for all...!

With best wishes,

Linda

Hiya linda!
have just spoken to one of our ambulance drivers. he says that east Sheen Cem is close to Queens Road ( up to the park) so will check it out later today. The person I am looking for is buried there, aged nine run over by yankee truck 1945. He lived in H'smith! I wonder how many more H'smith burials took place there during the war? If there is an office I shall ask. Finishing early today to facilitate checks for cem sites!

Hi Reg

You may find the following helpful: http://www.richmond.gov.uk/depts/env/envplanning/cemeteries/default.htm

Hope you find the grave you are looking for. I was interested to hear that the East Sheen Cemetery includes some wartime Hammersmith graves!! Maybe I need to take a closer look there for the one I am looking for...

I managed to find the grave I was looking for although, sadly ther was no headstone. What a beautiful cemetery!
There are wartime graves there, South African War Graves as well. A special section for our freinds from the 'Poppy' hospital, The Royal Star and Garter!
I have , this evening written to the people in 'The Office' at East Sheen hoping that they can shed some light on who else might be in the two graves that I am interested in.
I found my GGrandfathers grave at the H'smith Cem as well. No headstone again. I shall send another letter to Fulham Old Town Hall re that one . They are SO helpful there. If not I shall try the Lila Husset.
Have you tried the Old Town Hall, Fulham in your present search? The lady to write to there is Lisa Grinham, most helpful.

Yes, there are extremely helpful people working in Fulham Town Hall and at Lilla Husset... and at Mortlake Crematorium. However none of them could find my elusive Walter Hungerford!!
