Ah - I meant area as in part of the country. But this forum does have some very knowledgeable people who will be able to give you some new leads I expect. As you have probably found, researching your tree does involve using many different methods of discovering things.
Are you in Cornwall yourself? If so, then the FHS in Truro, the County Records Office and the Courtenay library (at the museum) are all well worth a visit.

Sorry, no I am not in Cornwall, I live in Milton Keynes. Have you heard of Norman Moyle. He is in America and runs a Moyle family tree site. You have to become a member but there is lots of great stuff on the site with loads of tree.

They are my 4xGt. Grandparents. :) My line of descent is then:

Stephen MOYLE 1759-1811 m. Mary TRELEGAN
Mary MOYLE 1788 m. John BOWDEN

Janet Moyle HOSKING b.c.1826, Penzance d.March Q 1886 in St Saviour District. Married Bennett DREW, 21 August 1843 in St Leonards, Shoreditch. Bennett and Jane lived out their married life in Newington, Surrey.

Must go searching for how she got the Moyle bit into her given names.

Oh, and by way of introduction, I'm Geoff Drew and, being a colonial, have ancestors from sundry places. Know most about by Cornwall (DREW, HARRIS, TALLACK, BENNETT) and East Devon (DYER, WHITE, PAVER, BRIDLE) mobs, a fair bit about the Essex lot (BRIGHTWELL, DACE), something about the Wiltshire lot (TUCKER) and not very much at all about those that came out of Fermanagh (HALL).

Best match I've seen so far, Bo Peep. I hadn't looked in St Hilary, mainly because I didn't have a clue where it was - maybe I should make a nice map of the parishes of Cornwall (or at least West Penwith). Every other Jane Hosking I've found (Penzance, Madron, Paul, etc.) didn't have the Moyle bit in it. Should send off for the marriage certificate I suppose. Looks to me a bit like young Bennet and Janet eloped to the Big Smoke.

Later: Looked again at 1841 Census, Jane Hosking by Jane Hosking until I found Henry and Polly.

Henry Senior and Henry Junior both working as Smiths. Living in Market Jew Street which places them in close proximity to members of the Drew mob as Bennet was living in Marine Terrace in 1841, further reinforcing the possibility that this is indeed the correct Jane Moyle Hosking. It also raises the possibility that Bennet and Jane were some form of cousins, as Bennet's mother was Eliza HOSKING. Further support for this being the correct Jane is the name of one of her daughters, Polly Moyle DREW.

Oh yes - we are quite "funny" in Cornwall about places! Try asking a Camborne man if he is from 'druth or worse, Hayle and St Ives! Only a couple of miles apart, yet there are real historical reasons why they do not like to be referred to as being from the other place!
Here in mid Cornwall, just up the road from me, are three villages - Fraddon, Indian Queens and St Columb Road. The places where they were once seperated are now built over, so all three just run into each other. But the old boundaries still exist - you may not be able to see them, but they are there! You dare not ask if someone lives in Queens if they live the other side of one of those invisible marks!

Hi to everybody again, Diane so far I have: Stephen 1716-1792/ Alice Tepet 1735-1790 son Stephen 1759-112/Mary Trelegon 1766-1809 several children Mary, Ann, Elizabeth, William, John, Margaret, Jane and Eliza. My tree then goes from William 1795-1874/Grace Kempthorne 1802-???? several children Edward, William, Eliza, John and Josiah. From Josiah 1835-1906/ Ann Bowden ????-???? They had some children my branch goes from Harry 1862-????/ Mary Ann Phillips 1873 one child only my granddad William Henry 1893-1948/Mabel Newel 1895-1982. Then my father who was one of many children Ronald Victor 1929-2006. I have an elder brother Anthony Victor and a younger sister Janet Patricia. I have a son and daughter from my first marrage Darren Michael and Gemma Louise. Gemma has two children Jacob 4 and Jessica 1. I also have two sons from my second marrage John Michael and Lee Kevin.

Just a breif history of my line, looks like we're distant cousins. Have you been researching your family long? I am very new to it and have spent a small fortune on various sites looking up censuses and records etc, and the amount of dead ends is so frustrating.

To be honest, I gave up with the 'extended' Moyle family some years ago, as Wendron seemed to be populated with 90% of all Moyle's! |banghead|

Too many of the same forenames, (including their wives) having children with same names, at the same time, to be certain of which children belonged to which family etc.

Even with the baptisms CD for Wendron, which I purchased from Cornish Forefathers Society a few years ago, it was difficult to sort out who was who!

I have eight children for Stephen & Mary, (same names as you have) and the same five children as you for William & Grace. I have your Josiah listed in my file, but showing as unmarried, as I stopped there on other branches.

Do you happen to know who the Ann BOWDEN was he married? I wonder if she was one of my lot?

Well, I couldn't have worked out our relationship, but Family Tree Maker did and it turns out that we are 5th cousins :)

I think we may also be distant cousins. I too am descended from Stephen Moyle and Alice Tepat.

My maiden name was Moyle.

My father was William Paton Moyle whose father was William George Moyle, whose father was William Moyle. William's father was James Goldsworthy. James was the son of Thomas Moyle who was the son of Stephen Moyle and Alice Teppat.

I have very little information but would be happy to provide what I can.
