h am wondering if there is a forum for Irish question.
My Gt Grandfather James Elliott was married in 1863
in Enniskillen County Fermanagh, his place of residence was
given as Shankhill Devenish ,is there such a place and if so
is it a township or a parish.
Would be grateful for any info

There are Irish county forums and I have moved the thread to the Fermanagh forum.
I also renamed the thread to the name of your ancestor - hopefully that will help others.

Looking at a map of Fermanagh, Devenish is just down the road from Shankill. If you find Enniskillen they are both a little North.
Hopefully, someone with a little more knowledge of Ireland will be able to offer more advice.

Nowadays, Devenish would just be an island in Lower Lough Erne. The island would be about half a mile long by about 300 yards wide. It has a Round Tower (of historical interest) a ruined Abbey and a small museum, and would be popular with day visitors but no-one lives there any more.

Many Thanks Mark & Elwyn
I shall pursue the avenues you have suggested.

I have lots of Elliotts from Enniskillen, but so far no James. Can you give us more information such as his parents or siblings?
Catherine
His fathers name was John, and he also had a brother
called John , I believe they were born in 1841 in Shankhill
a community not far from Eniskilleen, their father was
a farmer. Both of the brothers emigrated to Australia
in 1864.
Many Thanks Catherine
