I am trying to find a marriage, in London for Benjamin Matthews, (born 1777, Bourton On The Water, Gloucestershire and died 1835, buried in the Charterhouse Chapel, London) and Sarah, unknown surname, between approx 1797 and 1803 and possibly a death/burial for Sarah in London.

They don’t appear to have married in Gloucestershire (see Gloucestershire Board) http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47841. The IGI entries for Sarah Smith and Sarah Coleman are not the correct ones –there are IGI baptisms for both of these Benjamin Matthews and besides they are too old to be the Benjamin I am searching for.

Benjamin and Sarah had 7 children, all baptised St James Westminster, London.

Benjamin George Oliver Matthews bn 19 May 1803
Elizabeth Matthews bn 10Nov 1804
Mary Ann Matthews bn 14 Nov 1806
Amelia Matthews bn 27 June 1809
Sarah Rebecca Matthews bn 28 Mar 1811
Stephen Lewis Matthews bn 11 Feb 1813
Thomas Moss Matthews bn 18 Nov 1815

Sarah died between 1815, when her last child was born and 1819 when Benjamin married Rachel Viccars at St George Bloomsbury. Benjamin and Rachel had 2 children, William Lee Matthews born 1823 and Mary Ann Matthews born 1826 both baptised at St James Westminster.

Benjamin and Sarah were living at St James Market London in 1813 and Ben and Rachel in Archer Street London in 1825 according to baptism parish entries of three of their children.

Thank you,
Marg:)

Hi Kim,

Thank you for searching for me - that was the marriage that I had already discounted in my post.

I'm not sure where to go from here.|banghead|

Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Marg:)

Having read your posting on the Gloucestershire board where you mentioned Benjamin had named his son Thomas Moss after his own mother Elizabeth Moss, have you considered the name Lewis used as a second name for Stephen, may be of Sarah's influence? |idea|

Thank you gasser, Sarah's surname is probably Lewis, but I still can't find a marriage for them. I'll keep searching :) Marg
