View Full Version : National Family History Fair

I've just looked at the calendar and realised that it is now less than six weeks until the National Family History Fair at Gateshead on September 12th.

Fantastic fair attracting exhibitors from as far afield as Cornwall - now who could that be? :) - Shetland and Ireland.

Oh, and us of course :D

Well worth a visit.

'Ere, trespassing on Bo's patch is an offence which incurs a fine! You owe me a cup of coffee, okay?|laugh1|

The Gateshead fair is a super event, well organised, plenty of parking, etc., and I hope to see lots of B-G members there.

I'll do even better and buy Frank one as well :D

I believe so.

There is a huge line up of 105 exhibitors for this event and amongst them are

Brit-Gen with Bo Peep & the Daft Bat
Family & Local History Handbook with Liz & Bob
Genealogy Printers with Ron and Carol
One Stop Genealogy with Karen & Jo
Parish Chest with Frank & Pam

and someone called Graham with Jigrah Resources.|biggrin|

Don't forget, The National Family History Fair, Gateshead International Stadium, Saturday 12th. September, 10.00am - 4.30pm. Tickets cost just £4.00.

Hi Bo.

It might just cost 4 quid to get in but the fare from Canada is bloody awful

Maybe some time in the future if 'my ship comes in'

Such a long thread and nobody has thought to wonder why a provincial show bears the title "National".

Such a long thread and nobody has thought to wonder why a provincial show bears the title "National".

Why should anyone wonder? National doesn't have to imply London.

In terms of coverage compared to other shows - exhibitors from as far and wide as the south coast of England to the north of Scotland - it probably has deserved that title all through its history.

They get exhibitors from Ireland and Cornwall too.

Well in that case Bo, it is practically INTERnational!

Not only does the fair attract stall holders from all over the UK but with the exception of the W.D.Y.T.Y.A. fair held in London it's probably the 2nd largest fair held anywhere in the country as regards the amount of visitors and stall holders, I certainly would not call it a provincial fair.

Just start rowing, Colin, but you will have to paddle really quickly!|biggrin|

Thanks for the advice/suggestion - however - "My Get Up and Go" has suddenly

To make it less of a rush, we are driving to Gateshead on Thursday, returning home on Sunday, so it will be a long weekend away for us. No digging for four days - such a hardship!:)
Now no hitting the Bigg Market at night - you both need to be sober on Saturday :)

The what market?

The Bigg Market is a street in Newcastle which is now the centre of Newcastle night life. See Here (http://www.pierfrancescocelada.com/bm/biggmarket.html).

It is also where Balmbra's Music Hall (now a pub), which was immortalised in The Blaydon Races, is located.

Never leave home without them Fin, got caught out once, though I now know that a sturdy belt buckle will open most beer bottles.

Well I am home, after another super fair.

I managed to get there and back without getting lost, which always amazes my family.

I met a new B-G friend, James Corps, which was great - I love to put faces to names. |wave|

Bought yet more maps, I never can resist. Snook up on Graham and bought a CD, which I will peruse tomorrow (wanted nearly everything on the stand actually, so that's my Christmas list sorted.)

Joe and Karen, (Fudgecake and Karrie Cutletts) looked more glamourous than ever, I knew I should have had my roots done :o

Best find, a postcard, not silly money, of my bigamists ice cream stall in Lytham.

Of course I had a nice chat with the Daft Bat, Bo and Frank, though they were kept very busy for most of the day, I think we can expect a lot of new members over the next week or so.

I have to say that the Parish Chest and B-G stands were very classy, I don't know who sorts out the lighting but it was perfect. ;)
