Hi,

I have the Dorset 1851 and have been searching mostly successfully for the SCOREY family, one branch under Stephen in Radipole, and another Stephen in Melcombe Regis.

I have a marriage in 1839 for an Elizabeth SCOREY in Weymouth from GRO. FreeBMD have not yet indexed her but do have a John Scott MASTERS under the same reference. I have searched all of Melcombe Regis, Weymouth, Wyke Regis & Radipole without success for them.

I also do not which Elizabeth the marriage belongs to, yes I could buy a certificate but I need 100's of them!

The 1871 shows John Scott Masters with a wife aged 33 and a son John William aged 29 born Melcombe Regis, indicating that this is his second wife.

I would be very grateful if someone who has the 1851 census index could give me a clue where to look, whether on forum or direct mail.

My Scorey's came to Dorset from Hampshire so are small in number in the county, however if anyone has any links to them however small I would welcome the contact.

TIA.

Steve

Steve

There's a John MASTERS 39 Cabinet maker born Portsmouth, Hants in "Weymouth & Melcombe Regis" at folio 303 page 41. At the same folio/page are Elizabeth, 38 born Ringwood, Hants; Jane, 78 Annuitant born Weymouth and John, 9 born Weymouth.

That's in the Index, so no other info, but hope this helps

Best wishes
Maureen

Hi Maureen,

That is greatly appreciated, thanks.
It is on a page that is very difficult to read on the CD.

Can I ask you to look for the name Farrell or possibly Faucett, a nephew in the household, aged 17, a bread & biscuit maker, but I cannot make out his first name, looks like Northeyton?

Again thanks, a lot of information from the index is not clearly visible on the CD page so really helped.

Regards,

Steve

Hi Steve

The Index does not indicate relationships, but at the same folio/page there is a Worthington FARWELL age 17 bread baker born Weymouth. There are several other FARWELLs , but only Worthington at this reference.

Bear in mind that this is a transcript, so only the transcriber's interpretation of what he/she saw in the originals.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes
Maureen

Hi Maureen,

That is greatly appreciated, the name Worthington is quite unique and probably correct, I only knew it as the name of a beer! I think the transcriber has done an excellent job and no doubt got a feel for the enumerators writing.

In return if you want me to look at the CD's to confirm a transcript just say.

Many thanks,

Steve
