A free search of the indexes on ScotlandsPeople website using wildcards and a range of 1900 - 1933 only returns one possible result:
1914 COFFIELD NEIL DUFF ELEANOR MCGREGO CADDER (WESTERN) /LANARK 626/A1 0002
This is a pay per view site so you'd have to buy some credits in order to obtain all the details it contains.
Best wishes

I did try the free search for their daughter aged 4 on outward bound boat to Canada 1919, couldn't find her, she was Rachael (Ainsley) Coffield, it isn't a common name as far as I can see but at the moment apart from the info you gave me I can't find anything else about them, pity it is a payable site, when that is all I need
Many thanks
Louisa Maud
Hi Louisa Maud,
It seems that you have more info?
Please, please post all the info you have (or think you have).
Researchers on B-G can do brilliant research depending on all the info which they are given!
Genealogy is a good hobby - but, like all hobbies, it sometimes costs!
Sometimes it definitely needs to have a few pennies spent to get the definitive answers - on birth & marriage certs especially. :D
Best regards,

Hi Jap
Thanks for your reply, I know that Rachael Coffield left for Canada 1919 with her mother, she being a housewife, there was no mention of a husband on the ships listings for that trip, she was born in 1915 and her mother was Eleanor born circa 1894, well that is what I am thinking as even the ships list was badly written and one site just shows initials, I made it out to be Eleanor Coffield, Eleanor returned to England about 1935 ish.
I do subsribe to 2 sites. one beginning with A and the other with F, don't think I am allowed to mention them but they are both very short on Scottish records as far as I can see hence my request.
Thank you for your suggestions Jap, every little helps in this very frustrating hobby
regards

The only online resource to Scottish civil indexes and images is via SP. The other two you mention do not have any Scottish records save for some census transcriptions on one of them. The time frame you're searching is way outside the most recent open census.
If you just take a view of the marriage I previously posted you'll see that the mother of Eleanor has a very recognizable name. As for what happend to Neil......not certain. I'm not seeing a death for him around the time they would have departed for Canada. Perhaps he had gone on ahead of them.
Best wishes

Morning Jean
I did find a Neil Coffield departing just a few months prior to mother and daughter leaving for Canada so I feel as if it confirms that Eleanor and Neil married, or is it just coincidence.
Rachael returned about 1935 I am led to believe , I assume her parents died in Canada
best wishes and thank you
Louisa Maud
Well Louisa Maud,
It certainly does seem that a few pennies spent on SP might help!!
Firstly for marriage of Neil COFFIELD (might help you to trace backwards - if you are interested).
Then looking for child (or children) of the marriage.
Then any records of the child (or children) of the marriage who might have come back to Scotland.
Very best of luck!

I have since found out that the mother and children came backwards and forwards several times to England, I have also discovered that their grandson remembers his grandmother living with them when she came "home" Rachael and another brother settled and married in England whilst Eleanor returned to Canada and possibly died there
I am going to speak to another grandchild soon so hopefully we can compare notes
Thank you all once again

Hi Louisa,
I am just wondering - would the brother of Rachael that settled in England be called Reginald?
Thanks

Hi Louisa,
Firstly, thankyou for responding.
Rachael Ainsley Coffield liked to be known as Reit. She had a brother Reginald Thomas Coffield, and a sister Una. Una stayed in Canada, both Reit and Reg settled in England. Reg was my father. He died in 2004. I was named after my aunt.
Yes I am based in Chelmsford. Can I ask what is your connection to the Coffield's - I dont recognise your surname, but then if you are married I wouldn't!
Thanks
Ainsley
