I have a Trench Art small matchbox holder given to my grandfather by his son who served in the 1st World War. On one side it says GNR.T.J. Roberts and his number. It also has the following which I would appreciate assistance in understanding what it stands for - 235 A.A.S. in one line and underneath B.E.F. On the other side is a coin with a lady on it.
Many thanks.

There was an Anti-Aircraft Corps within the Royal Artillery - as a guess, possibly A.A.S is an abbreviation for Anti-Aircraft Section.
B.E.F = British Expeditionary Force

Geoffers is right on with BEF- The term was also used in WWII for the Phoney War & Dunkirk. If you do a Google on Anti Aircraft Service, you'll get quite a few hits (no pun intended:D ).
