View Full Version : Origins.net - Unsubscribing

I subscribed to Origins.net to check one thing, but then realised that the site had nothing else I was interested in: I sent an email two days ago to ask them to unsubscribe me, and I'm a little concerned they haven't acknowledged it. Am I right to be concerned or am I overreacting?

Tanya, you should have received a confirmation email. In any event remove any cc account info that they can charge to. And unsubscribe again.

The 72 hour option is best for trying it out.

How do I do that (remove any cc account info, that is)?

I thought the month's option was safe enough. :(

Think of all the lookups you can do for people :D

That's the bright side, I guess. On the dark side, I'm on a limited income and I can't really afford to be paying about $20 a month for a site I'm not using for myself. :(

When you log in go to your account info or profile info. It's been a long time so not quite remembering but you should be able to delete any payment details you made.

I've logged back in but I can't see any options to delete my payment details. :(

I've sent them another email: hopefully, I'll get a reply this time.

I just sent an email to "support AT origins DOT net", in addition to the ones to "help AT origins DOT net". I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

If it's anything like the account we have with them, payment details are processed by WorldPay on a recurring authority, so any change of card details etc has to be done there rather than at Origins.

Perhaps you contact your credit card company and have them put a stop on any further payments to this account.

I'll do that if I haven't heard from Origins.net by the end of next week.

Great. Just great.

I contacted my building society: as Origins is a British company they can't put a freeze on the account. All they can do is put a freeze on my card, necessitating getting a new card.

I sent Origins multiple emails requesting my subscription be cancelled: no reply.

And now they've billed me for yet another month's membership, so I'll have no choice but to put a freeze on my card. |banghead|

I just don't understand: I haven't heard of any other people having problems with Origin.net. Why won't they unsubscribe me??? |banghead|

I tell you this much: once I get this sorted out I will never visit Origins.net again.

t@nya, make sure to check your personal account with origins. Where ever your "send me newsletter update" info is - it should be there. That is really bad news for you having to mess around like with that. I should have thought that "cancel my subscription" would have been good enough!

on the FAQ there is a cancel subscription email:

support AT origins DOT net

and it says to just say cancel and all memberships will be cancelled at the end of the term of the sub with Cancel in the subject line. It also says and there is a link to World Pay to change your payment details. Have you done all that.

I notice that one of the pages on their home page is to something called discussion (I presume you need to be logged in to access it). Try posting something in there. May get their attention. :)

When you tried to cancel did you just include the word Cancel in the subject of your email to support AT origins DOT net ?

The reason I ask is that sometimes deviating from the exact subject will result in the email not being noticed if it is being tracked by an automated system.

Under help & resources click on FAQ, click on payment options and it shows the link.

Yes, I did, for at least one of the emails I sent last month. I've just sent another few messages, several emails and one of those "fill in the boxes" contact us things.

Hopefully this time one will be noticed.

Good luck. It is really bad when subscriptions do not cancel as they should.

Well, I did it.

I went to RBSWorldpay and cancelled the agreement myself.

I even got an email of acknowledgement. So hopefully, that will be the end of it (crossed fingers).

Thanks for all your help guys. Especially you v.wells: it was your suggestion that led me to check out the RBSWorldpay website.

I am indeed. :D

And I've learnt a valuable lessons: don't subscribe to something without knowing how to unsubscribe. :o

I was actually annoyed at where it was located since you had to hunt for it. They deliberately don't make it easy.

I subbed to them years ago, but discovered they had little to offer me, so I cancelled the free trial was over, so was relatively easy. It was cancelling the continual newsletter things that took the time to get rid of!

I think I accidentally subscribed to this site for a year (yes how stupid is that)and dont tell hubby) I too havent found anything as such that is useful. I presume that I will have to wait till next year to cancel otherwise I will loose access might as well keep viewing incase something is useful.

I finally got a reply to one of my emails from support at Origins dot net confirming the cancellation of my agreement (after I'd done it myself, of course).

So, that is that. Last time I ever use Origens.net that's for sure.
