Hi Sally,
Your best bet is to get a birth certificate for
Harold Williams Fletcher 11 months Malpas Cheshire
He was born May 1870, so should be easy to find on FreeBMD
http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl (Which is free, but not complete)
or 1837 online (which is complete but not free - but you might find someone has spare credits and will look it up for you)

You can order the birth certificate through a link from 1837online site, and that will give you Mum's maiden name

Regards

Clive

Hi Clive,

Thanks for the advice. You know, I had no idea that you could get the mother's maiden name from a birth certificate. The only certificates I have been ordering are marriage certificates to get the name of the father.

I shall give 1837 a try - it's time I tried this site again. I have tended to use ancestry as the best match search is so good.

Thanks again,
Sally
