I have hit a brick wall with a Charles Edward BOOND, father of Mary Jane BOOND who married my great great grandfather, Alfred Wright, in 1872. The marriage certificate gives her father as Charles Edward BOOND, Manufacturer. Mary JAne was born in Chorlton, Lancashire. I have an IGI Christening record, but can not find anything else.
[Christening: 15 JAN 1848 Cathedral, Manchester, Lancashire, England
Parents:
Father: CHARLES BOOND Family
Mother: ELIZA ]
Anybody else researching the BOOND family? Can anybody locate Charles and Eliza on a census for me?
TIA,
Sally

Eliza was the first entry on the page,so I am reasonably confident that Charles was the last entry on the previous page...but that was totally unreadable. He was certainly alive because Eliza is described as married..also because

I am sorry I didn't catch your earlier posts, but I have had visitors staying in my computer room. Amazing how cut off you are without a computer, isn't it?!
Anyway, your research confirms Mary's siblings for me. I had them on IGI, but no other evidence apart from the full name of Jessy being Jessy Wright Boond which is intriguing.
You asked earlier for the full details of Mary's marriage to Alfred Wright:
Aug 25 1872
Parish Church, Parish of the Holy Trinity in the County of the City of Chester
Age Prof Res Father Prof
Alfred Wright Full Bachelor Stonemason Grouse(?)St George Wright Stonem
Mary Jane Boond Full Spinster Nicholas St Charles Edward Boond
C E Boond has manufacturer as his profession.
I now have to find out what a Fustian Cond Merchant is....
Thanks so much for your hard work. I really appreciate it. I see you are at Manchester Central Library. Does the library have a big family history section? I was wondering as I will be in Marple for 2 weeks in the summer. Would it be possible to get a copy of the images you transcribed?
Thanks again,
Sally

I am glad that you were pleased with the results. You will be able to take photocopies yourself if you come to MCL, at a cost of 40p per sheet. The 1851 Census may be a problem as the quality of the film was not very good.
If I am still in the country I may even show you how to use the copier.
I forgot to answer the MCL question...yes.Take a look at the website as per sticky message.

Sally,
Could it be Fustian Cord Manufacturer instead of Fustian Cond Manufacturer?
Debbie
OOps! Just re-read UK's original post to discover it WAS Cord...

Thanks UK and DebbieAnn,
Sadly, I have made little progress with my particular line of the Boonds. I have what I assume is the uncle of Charles Edward Boond - a William Boond (~1778) who married Hannah Clegg 16 APR 1803. Their son, John Clegg Boond married a Caroline Holt and I have all 8 of their children thanks to the IGI.
What I don't have is anything to link the two families. It is very possible that the John Boond you found is the father of Charles Edward Boond, the date fits, but how do I find out? Where do I look?
I have the Bertram Merrell marriage index for my Cheshire folk pre 1837, can you suggest anything for Manchester?
Cheers,
Sally in Dubai

There is a Manchester and Salford directory for the year 1800 which lists a Peter Boond, Gent., St. Peter's (residence). It can be accessed through Ancestry It also appears there was a Boond Street, listed in the same directory: a David Holt, cotton spinner, lived there. Perhaps he is related to your Caroline Holt?
Ancestry also shows: The England Commercial Directory for 1816-17 for Manchester, which lists, under Manufacturers of Fustian, a William Boond, 29 Cannon Street (residence). Yours? He is also listed under Manufacturers of, and Dealers in, Cotton Goods (same address).

Also from Ancestry: there is a History of Lancashire as of 1825, which lists 3 Boonds:
John Boond, land & building agent & surveyor, 1 Ancoates grove
John Boond, shopkeeper, 50 Long Millgate
Boond & Spencer, velveteen, shirting, &c. mfrs, Dickinson's court, Cannon street
Perhaps these are Wiliam, the uncle of Charles, John, the cousin of Charles, and John, the father of Charles?

I'll take a look at the various TDs to see if there is any other information. I am doing some work on St Thomas', Ardwick baptism at the moment so I will keep an eye out for C E B c1805.
