Hi
I'm sort of new to this thing so go easy on me please. My g-grandfather was Charles RICHARDS, who finished up as a stone mason in Long Preston, W Yorks (the pretty bit) in the 1891 and 1901 census. He was born (14/8/1855) in Camborne and married Sarah Jane CARLYON of St Martin in Meneage (born 14/7/1858). It seems they might have met in Yorkshire as he and his mother are on the 1871 census (Langcliffe, W Yorks). His mother is at this time married to a Christopher SILVERWOOD.
I'm trying to locate Bridget RICHARDS, (the mother) back to her Cornish roots and possible marriage to Charles RICHARDS' father. Bridget was born in Marazion (c1830) and her eldest child Susanna J was born in Penzance (c1853) before, I assume, moving to Camborne.
Any help on this would be appreciated.

And based on that, a look on FreeBMD shows a John Moore RICHARDS marriage in Jun 1850 quarter in Penzance reg District, and the likeliest of the 4 females is Biddy JACKA.
Then a quick look at the IGI for Biddy Jacka brings up a marriage 11 May 1850 at Madron to John Moore Richards, Biddy is 21, John is 45. Biddy's father is shown as John.
Then looking at 1841 Census
HO107 / 144 / Parish St Hilary ED 3 folio 45 page 14
Trevenna,1,John Jacka,64,,Tin Miner,In county
,,Elizabeth Jacka,,44,,Not in county
,,Alice Jacka,,15,,In county
,,Richard Jacka,13,,Miner Copper,In county
,,Bridget Jacka,,11,,In county
,,Sally Jacka,,9,,In county
,,Jane Jacka,,7,,In county
anyone it's one possible fit together.

To complete the set, here's the 1861 Census ..... but I've had a bit of difficulty reading the handwriting (sorry), so things I'm not sure of are clearly marked.

Blimey! You lot don't mess about, do you?
Most of the info I had has come out of an old family bible which I always assumed was from the CARLYON branch of the family. However on the back papers there is a ref to John Moore RICHARDS and the date of his birth being Mar 26 185?...this would be Charles RICHARDS' younger brother and links in with the name of his father that you found from the 1851 census. Beneath his name is an Elizabeth SIMMONS who was born of Mar 15 182? who she is I do not know.
The discovery of Bridget (Biddy) JACKA as being Charles wife is wonderful, I had come across three possibilities (two LAITY's and a JACKA I think) but the cross referencing to confirm which one is much appreciated.
The widow Biddy RICHARDS (now born at Ludgvan which I notice is near to Marazion) in the 1861 census is finally at Camborne with her daughter Susanna Jane (b Penzance) Charles (my g-grandfather) and John Moore.
Frankly, I'm amazed...many thanks to all of you.
