A collection of information and old wills from the Fens, I found this by chance whilst Googling "Soham" for my Eve ancestors. Unfortunately they are not amongst the entries but the book's wills make interesting reading regardless.

One John Baledyn, Presbyter, of Parish Church of Soham gave to an Alice Hall several items, including candlesticks, sheets and his mattress, "if she will come for them". He also bequeathed to Alice's father a black worsted counterpane but his poor wife only got "a pair of beads of jet, if she will come for them".

Is it me or did he whip his marriage bed (or rather, mattress) from under his missus to give to his lady-friend?!

Spangle, At this point I think I'd prefer the jet beads! Jet isn't so easy to come by now! .... but I see what you mean. I'm about to search for 'my' Isons as they were from Quy.
